Sorry, but it's like saying, "Hey, let's go fetch one of those big-shot star wingers from Florida." There just isn't anything there that interests me. - jmatchett383
Hey, you're entitled to your opinion. I just found the Schenn comparison to be pretty amusing. |

Yeah, Crosby did have to do the majority of the heavy lifting this season. Probably his best case for the trophy, as Malkin et. al. were healthy for the other one. - jmatchett383
Sidney Crosby is an offensive threat. If he doesn't show up for a game and in most cases he does, Malkin back them up pretty good. Crosby is far from the only offense of threat on his own team. |

Yeah...except that Malkin missed over 20 games this year, his first-line winger went down for the year, he had a host of rotating AHL wingers, the defense was beset with crippling injuries to top players, and their bottom-6 was a mess. And through it all, he still led the league in points, was a top faceoff man, was a 2-way threat, and led them to a division title.
I'd say it was a Hart-worthy year. |

I know it's over-simplified, but it's (sadly) true, to an extent. |

yeah but that argument starts to lose some luster when you consider that malkin missed 20 games. letang was essentially a lost season. i know dupuis isnt exactly OV in the goal department, but he was still a dependable top 6 guy, who had good chemistry with crosby. not to mention, there was no replacement coming in. it was brian gibbons.

If Justin Schultz isn't coming back, I tell Edmonton to kick rocks
Unless Coburn is apart of a package to get the #3 pick, but even then I think I need Schultz in the deal |

being the only one in the league to break 100, when no one else breaks 90. is a pretty extreme disparity by todays standards.
hell he was even held out a game or two.
other than kunitz, who everyone says is basically an overrated, coattail riding plug anyway, he skated with absolute junk most of the time. |

Exactly. I wouldn't deal Coburn for the #3 in this draft (I would have in last year's). |

I think my plan would be to look at desperate teams. Teams like WPG and EDM can only rebuild for so long before they actually have to try and make a playoffs. They might be more willing to make a desperate trade like MTL did for Gomez. |

Also, you could probably give him another 10-15 points if they played him on his natural side of the PP and opposed to James Neal. |

A few thoughts about next week regarding the NHL awards and the draft.
First, with the awards only eight days I'm most excited about that. I truly believe without Giroux, theFlyers do not get as far as they did this season. So with this belief, I feel Giroux has the inside track on the Hart Trophy. It really would be nice to see our Captain win such deserving hardware. Crosby is normally the guy fans think of first but even Ov has surprisingly won over Crosby himself.
As for the draft, I do believe we should go after a wing but I do ask this. What if we did draft the best player available which just happens to be a center? Does this leave room to trade one of Schenn or Laughton in a much bigger package to help the team now? Do I want this? Absolutely not but I do feel Laughton brings the same issues Lecavalier brings. If Laughton is too good for a top nine role, a center must move to wing. - SuperSchennBros
I don't think Giroux won. I think Crosby did. |

Yes, but the Gomez deal was a super anomaly. It could happen again, but if you're going at those teams, you're looking to pry out a star player since you don't have a Gomez. If you go to Winnipeg, you are going for Trouba, to me. In Edmonton, you need one of Schultz, Eberle, or Hall. |

I probably would. It means 1 of Ekblad, Reinhart, or Bennett is available.
Id then replace Coburn in a B. Schenn trade. |

That's a bit of counting your chickens before they hatch...and banking on players with 0 NHL games in a weak draft. |

The Flyers aren't in rebuilding mode. They expect to be a playoff team next year and, as such, they are unlikely to trade a defenseman who plays as many minutes as Coburn does. |

yeah but why would they do that. the pens PP is the most inefficiently organized entity imaginable.
i truly dont understand why they do what they do. |

Correct. I just think EDM and WPG seem to be stuck in neutral and might be desperate to make a deal that gets them into the playoffs.
So would you do Trouba for Schenn and Coburn? Would you do Coburn to EDM for Nurse and a pick? |

(As I'm sure you're well aware of), some of the voters already released (or talked about) their ballots. I haven't seen 1 guy have Giroux #1. Someone had Getzlaf #1, making the case the western conference offered him tougher match ups game in and game out, but never saw Giroux. I think just getting into the top 3 in the end should be viewed as a pretty big accomplishment. |

I personally wouldn't move Coburn in a deal unless a guy is coming back who is better right now. I'm not sure I view the Flyers as far away as some do I guess. |

Trouba for those 2? No, because then you're opening a hole at center. Same way I wouldn't do the other trade, because you have a hole (Nurse is probably back to juniors). In the Gomez deal, the Rangers got better immediately and for the future. So if I go to Winnipeg with those 2, I'd want Trouba and on of Ladd/Wheeler. |

I agree with the first part. But this is NOT a weak draft. It could be about on par with the 2007 draft, which ended up churning out 43.6 percent of its selected players dressing in at least one NHL game, with an average 133 GP to date (and remember that these players are all still just 24 or 25, so those average GPs could climb pretty high when all is said and done years from now).
