i just mean because so much of the pressure would be off of him. coburn is a good and balanced player. just not a number one. if you brought in that number one, with coburn still on the team, i think he would be awesome getting to share the burden a little bit. - stayinthefnnet

I'm saying with the current makeup of the organization. Does Schultz' offense and (anticipated $3M maybe) cap hit outweigh Coburn's overall game? - jmatchett383
Hell no. We're supposed to be reducing the amount of really hard minutes Kimmo's getting. Trading Coburn would make a 39 year old our top Dman for penalty killing and going against other teams top lines. |

The Flyers aren't in rebuilding mode. They expect to be a playoff team next year and, as such, they are unlikely to trade a defenseman who plays as many minutes as Coburn does. - bmeltzer
I agree with you. I'm interested in very little that EDM could even offer |

Ok. I can see that. What about something like Trouba and rights to Burmistrov for schenn and coburn - J35Bacher
Burmi's contract expires after this coming season... he'd certainly relieve some of the sting of losing Schenn.
Trouba > Coburn already, IMO.
Really don't see the Jets being interested in that deal, though. Not just because Trouba is untouchable, but because they really don't need B Schenn with all their young C's coming up. |

Has Coburn really been thrown under the bus by the "fan base" as some kind of average to lousy player? Or is this perception just due to people throwing his name around in trade proposals? If I were to throw his name around in some blockbuster trade proposal it's just because I think he's good enough that other teams could stomach doing a big deal if they're also getting good players back, not because I think he sucks. |

So a team like Colorado. Would they move Johnson for Coburn? What about O'Reilly and Johnson for Cobrun and Schenn? I like o'Reilly's game. I don't think Johnson has played to his potential yet. |

eh well to me its still largely based on individual preference and ranking as opposed to what that next level is. take a guy like yandle. i think the price would be hefty, but he could be acquired. whereas a guy like OEL could not.
but then again, some would look at yandle as being part of that next level of guys, albeit slightly unbalanced. whereas some guys wouldnt touch yandle at all. - stayinthefnnet
Can't really think of many actual top-pair dmen that have changed addresses over recent years... Original Dion? Brent Burns? Brian Campbell? Erik Johnson? Jack Johnson? JBo? It's a pretty short list, for sure. |

i realize i cant speak for everyone and anyone. but, the perception that the 20s 30s crowd gives off by and large is that he is garbage.
which is egregiously incorrect. |

yeah. definitely some good recall there haha. and that is the comparable real estate market that would likely be available.
a guy like yandle, enstrom/bogo, fits that. its hard. because the price will still be fairly high, and yet the return still leaves part of you shrugging. |

I think we've reached the point with Luke Schenn where what you see is what you're going to get. He is still the same player with the same limitations (iffy positional awareness, skating, puckhandling) that he was at 18, and still partially makes up for it with his physicality, compete level and what I think is underrated passing. - bmeltzer
In terms of Luke Schenn, do you feel he is a top 4 guy? |

Depends what you need. You are unlikely ever going to get a Claude Giroux or Shea Weber or Lundqvist anyway outside of drafting. You have to draft the guys you want to build around and then pick up or trade for the rest. Like LA, they drafted Quick, Kopitar and Doughty and they traded for guys like Richards, Carter, Williams and Gaborik ect |

This isn't the first time he's been linked to a team from Western Canada, so I don't think that's it. He's from Western Canada, so I put almost no stock in any rumor coming out of there.

We gave up JVR for him. You almost have to call him a top 4 guy.
But yes, I think he is. Especially if he's paired with Coburn or Streit (or just a better skater in general) |

the moves that netted shero a cup had nothing to do with his drafting. he made some shrewd trades.
i have high hopes for his defensive crop of guys. but, for a win now team, its rough. they take time. |
