That's (frank)ed though. No way he should be making more than duchene and Landeskog.
Though we don't know what the offers have been - Big_Lightnin
It is (frank)ed but there is non RoR replacement for 5.5m dollars a season in free agency, or in a trade so just pay him the extra million if you have to. If they don't, avs will see a big decline next season. He's really that special of a 2 way forward |

It's not necessarily gutting the team, more like giving some of the guys in the minors the chance they deserve. What's the point in finally drafting and developing some young talent if you plan on letting it go to waste playing in the AHL? Not saying all of the marlies are ready to make a jump, or that all marlies WILL make the jump, but certainly 4 or 5 on that roster are NHL ready IMO. - RileyHaze
problem is that it's one thing to look NHL ready while playing in the AHL. it's another thing to truly be NHL ready, which you don't know for certain until a player actually get a regular shift. so you need contingencies. |

You don't toss 4 or 5 guys all into the NHL at the same time. It's why you have guys like Phaneuf. So those young guys can be sheltered a bit and get used to the game as needed. - Aaron_85
Some of these Marlies already had NHL experience, and will be more comfortable coming into camp next year to prove they belong there. While I agree a few vets should be present on the team, I don't believe Phaneuf should be one of them, and there are many ways to go about bringing in a veteran leader, or two. |

At least 3 of those guys are 3rd or4th liners... And a bottom pairing Dman
Would LOVE to have 2-3 rookies on the 4th line instead of what we have now |

I simply just disagree.
I think Phaneuf is currently fine where he is. He may need to go but I don't think it's this off season. |

Didn't get the impression OP was talking about taking.
Trading Phaneuf might be a long term step forward but they will in fact be worse next year, unless they replace him with a quality top pairing D... Or 2 - Big_Lightnin
I really don't think it's that dire in Leafland... You guys need to relax and just enjoy the sport. Phaneuf doesn't belong in TO. Changing the culture a little can only do good things for the team at this point. I know replacing him isn't easy, but I'm sure they'll come up with something. |

If it's not this off-season, it will become much more difficult to trade him, IMO. |

Well, that's the dilemma. I have been jamming a bit with one of the bands and they seem to think I'll be fine, but I'm concerned about playing my FIRST show with them at a festival that big. We are getting together this upcoming Sunday to work through the set and then I'll really know for sure. About 80% confident that I will be playing though, as I have been practicing my ass off to learn their set in the 2 week time frame haha
Gonna be present either way though |

I agree, last year got off to a weird start for him, and he never really recovered. If he is as bad this year as he was in 2013-14, that contract looks SO MUCH WORSE. |

5.8 range is my comparable for him, that's what steen signed in St. Louis, so cap hit wise on a long term if it's bw 5.6-6.0 that seems fair to me |

Holland, D'amigo, Granberg (though one NHL game doesn't count for my point), Leivo, Macintyre (Never been given a real shot in the NHL). Other options would include MacWilliam and Ashton (though I'm not a fan of Ashton's)

Right now, Carrick, Holland and Granberg plus D'Amigo on the roster, not much more he can learn in the AHL.
Leivo as a call up when needed unless lights out in camp. |

Lol no kidding, you play shows every week, plus work a day job and deal with the riff raff on here? My god man.
The band is Crossley Hunter, and I don't think I said anything because they wanted to be sure I was willing to play Lachie before I started telling anyone. Word spreads fast in the small town music scene.
But yeah, I'm psyched. Totally ready to have some pirate rock in my ears! |
