he's a bit too steep cash wise tho.. thats just fact
- Dozzer

hes looking at what Weiss, Clarkson, Clowe got and saying 6.5 mill is do-able.
These GMs do it to themselves.

for a guy who's qualifying offer is 6.5 million?

a guy who scored just 64P? for 6.5 million?

dont be so quick to assume people are going to be lining up for him

- Dozzer

he is pretty good when it comes to the fancy stats.. good teams will offer more
leafs will say we have bozak..pass

His QO is moot now. With Colorado taking him to club elected arbitration ROR has 2 options. Sign an offer sheet in the window. Or go to arb where the judge can award a one or two year deal that can be anywhere from 85% of his current salary and up.

well, we're assuming.

Just because his QA has to be a certain amount (which it doesn't now) doesn't really mean much.

He can sign for whatever he wants. He can sign for 8 yrs $5M per with Avs right now if he wants.
he won't, but he could.

$5.75M too much? doubt he'd sign it for more than 3 years, till he's UFA (didn't look... 3 years?)

6.5 million for a guy who has broken 60P once in his career

thats one hell of a gamble imo

ask buffalo how leino worked out for them

- Dozzer

that is a horrible comparison.

VL was 28 when he signed with Buff after a career year. (bozak like)
ROR is 22 and would be the best Center the leafs have had since ....

Man... I love O'Reilly but even at his current salary he's overpaid like crazy.

Don't get me wrong, he's a very good young player... but I'm not convinced he's a first line center.

2nd line goes head to head against top lines most of the time. 4th line is "checking line" I should have said.

but get mostly defensive starts when you need a stop. Competent defenders as opposed to 5 min facepunchers like Leafs have employed in recent years

- Badge

oh whoops sorry i misunderstood.
ya i for sure agree with that. teams need a 4th line that can play. maybe not in December or January, but come March/April/May... you need to be able to distribute ice time.

dumb move imo

he'll take the 1 year and happily walk into UFA territory next summer. Also, the avs cant move him post award.. they will end up losing him for nothing

I was wondering that myself. I'd think a trade is not possible with club elected arb pending.

$5M cap hit is fine though... for what he brings.

over $6M is pretty bad though for what is ideally a 2nd line player.

ROR, would have to slow down to play for the Leafs, as I have said before. Love to see him here, but I doubt he comes here..

seems to me that if he can be offer sheeted he can be traded. would be silly otherwise.

There is still a third option I guess of him signing a long term deal with the Avs up until the Arb date.

And I believe a one year deal still leaves him as RFA for next year.

If the Leafs trade for him, they have to lock up this kid for at least four years. I'd hope they consider it if the asking price isn't ridiculous.

yeah, think he takes 5 when he knows even an arbitrator will likely give him closer to 6
