I wouldn't do spezza straight up for staal. He's been little more than an avg dman for the last 3 seasons.....and has missed almost 80 games to injury in that same time - sensarmy_11
Staal is a horrible investment, I would rather sign Stralman in FA. |

Sens eat half of Spezza's final year 3.5cap hit, cost 2mil in actual salary
Rangers eat half of Staal's final year 2mil cap hit, actual salary 2.75mil.
As an example, numbers are ballpark - Cup 06 Yeah i dont want Stall if he is going to bolt to Carolina next season .

I'm curious if Ottawa's souring on Berglund with the news of a potential need for shoulder surgery. - Travis Yost
They are probably thinking they can now get him on the cheap! Look for the Sens to trade Spezza for ONLY Berglund |

Now do the blueline
Old and broken - top shelf 15
Hmm, how so? Timonen and Streit are the only two over 30.
It's not overly good, but old and broken isn't quite accurate. Given they let up significantly less shots and goals than both Toronto and Ottawa, might wanna think about that whole glass house thing. |

There would be more pieces involved, it was just an example of cap hit/salary manipulation. |

I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't be interested in any deal where staal was the main piece coming back. |

Meh dont care ,they aint winning anything. With what they have back there. So does offering up 6.5 to 7 mil for a winger seem logical to you??? or are you just trying to troll us again |

They didn't overpay for hemsky, so that makes management bad? - sensarmy_11
Yeah, clearly that is the ONLY reason for my statement.
I stand corrected. Ottawa ownership is great!

Edm got two worthless picks, and had to retain salary to get rid of the guy, and the oil fan is trolling cuz ottawa didn't give him 5.5 and term, based on a good 20 games.
- sensarmy_11
I would consider it an inarguable win for OTT if they'd resigned Hemsky. A 3rd in next year's draft, and looking at OTT's roster next year it appears it'll be a pretty high 3rd, for 20 games isn't necessarily a loss. EDM traded two 3rds and a 5th for Scrivens and Fasth. They can turn that into a useful bottom 6er, probably
In a UFA season where Niskanen will get 5.5-6M, you really wouldn't expect a 30 year old guy coming off a 5M deal to sign for 3.33M? That's what the previous poster finds laughable |

No, Mcdavid will be put on a us team.None of us here in canada will ever see a player like him

It sure seems that way doesn't it. Edmonton did manage to get all those first rounders though. |

I don't know, the leafs might be bad enough.....especially if they trade their only good dman. - sensarmy_11

So Hemsky, Spezza, Michalek gone? Was that not the entire 2nd line for the last 20?
What will the 2nd line look like now?
(part of return from Spezza trade)-Zibby-Stone? |

Ownership and management are two different things. Melnyk is a cheap ass, but Murray does a very good job with what he has to work with.
Poor management example.......that would be your team. You guys have good ownership, and terrible management |

I think stone stays with Turris and MacArthur ( looked really good there at end of the season )
Zibby will play with Ryan, and add whatever we get for spezza, or a UFA |

Sounds about right. I think Peumpel will get a chance at camp. He's scored goals at every level. But making that jump to the NHL will be tricky. Doubtful he'll start so high on the depth chart. |

I will tell you a good reason for getting Hemsky. It energized Spezza. He looked great. - spatso
1. This is an excellent point.
Whether that was the intent or not - certainly true
Don't get me wrong, love thos guys... Great young players. Point is, he sees that the Ownership isn't willing to spend to bring in the names they need to take a run at the cup....
Thats the only issue I see. I like OTT as a team, it's just too bad when you have a great GM, ut an owner that handcuffs him - MrBeanTown
2. Good points again. My thoughts as well.
These next few weeks are critical.... something tells me the Sens will make 1 or 2 other moves following Spezza (as mentioned by many here they need to hit the floor) , but more importantly leadership will be needed from management of the 2nd captain in 12 months is headed out the door and your vets (6, 16, 3, 41) are UFAs in 12 months time.
Very critical time indeed. Fans deserve better |

The Sens ain’t winning anything with what they got back there, OR up front.
The point was someone tried to reference the appeal of playing with the likes of Macarthur, Turris, Zibanejad, Lazar or whatever (not even in the NHL yet!!!), as some sort of appeal to Bobby Ryan. There are 15+ teams that can list off a better group of forwards for him to play with. That’s all. It just seemed like a silly post. |

Yes, there is no connection between ownership and management, especially where financial decisions are concerned. How could I have missed that.
Believe it or not, not every person who shows up on a Sens thread is here to troll the Sens fans.
