if we get a good return for spezza, AND add RoR to our lineup, i can't see this team missing the playoffs next season. i'd have no problem moving that pick. - sensarmy_11
The reasoning is sound.
The problem is that I remember 2009, getting Kessel and signing the 2 most sought after defense free agents. It was completely reasonable to think that their first rounder wouldn't be number 2 overall.
Unless you are Boston, Chicago, San Jose etc. I think there is too much risk when McDavid is at stake.
top-5 or top-10 protect the pick, then the deal for RoR looks better, but who knows whether that gets it done. I think 29 teams will be making a pitch for RoR if he is being shopped.

I'd do Staal and Brassard for Spezza in a heart beat. What else are we possibly going to get when teams know he wants out
Murray gave away his power when he said Spezza wanted a trade |

I don't think you can judge any offer without know what the other offers are out there.
Spezza's injury history would scare me. If it were talent alone, then clearly that is not enough.

fair enough.........and a very good point. i still think it's worth the risk.
unless ottawa finishes in the bottom 3 of the league (which i can't see as being remotely possible), the chances of winning the lottery are so miniscule that they're barely worth considering.
i wouldn't not make a good trade based on having a 0.04% chance of getting mcdavid, or whatever the small % is. |

We have a bottom 5 blueline that's likely to be worse this year. It's very possible |

debatable. our entire blueline played below it's potential last season, like everyone. if even half of them bounce back a little, and our goalies play better (which is likely)............i just can't see this team not at least competing for a playoff spot next year. |

Ugh. I like picking on your comments.
Murray came out in the media and said that Spezza wanted a trade. Last time I checked, Murray isn't trading with the media, or with the fans of any team, he's trying to make a deal with the other 29 GM's in the league, and you can rest assured that they've known of Spezza's availability since the trade deadline, or probably before. Going public with it doesn't weaken or strengthen his position in any way, it's just idle talk with media vultures.
Here's a comparison. You tell your friend that you're going to ask a girl at work on a date. He doesn't know the girl. Does you telling your friend have any impact on whether or not she is going to say yes?? |

Murray gave away his power when he said Spezza wanted a trade - skelly96 Teams already knew we werent going to resign him ,it doesnt matter what BM says tbh we arent going to get the moon for him .A good two way center,a decent not a teams best prospect. And a low to mid first. We are the ones getting the quantity ,the team getting spezza gets the quality

understandable.
ottawa has been burned the other way....holding on to those top 10 picks, and seeing flops
lee, daigle, even phillips 1st overall is painful |

Never believe the details of a reported first offer. It is always different than reported. I like Brassard (but, I love all the local guys ). Not very impressed with the idea of Staal. Would pass on the deal.
But love the fact the Rangers are wanting to make an offer.
Now, if the Flyers would step up. They have a bunch of players that would be of greater interest than what the Rangers supposedly offered. |

Now if you saw Krieder's name around this you would pay attention.
I thought Rangers would be all in on Statsny. I guess he is going to reup with Colorado. |

i could easily see ryan getting as much, or even a little more than karlsson. EK signed his current deal coming out of his ELC.....i'm pretty sure it's understood league wide that your 2nd "real deal" is the "big money" one. - sensarmy_11
I'm not convinced Ryan is worth that kind of money. I do like him, and I know he was playing through a fairly severe injury, but he has always looks a little bit slow, and not very aggressive. He's not good enough at forechecking and backchecking to create turnovers. He has great scoring ability, but I think he has some work to do to become a real top line threat. He strikes me as being more like Spezza and Heatley than say Kessel or Hossa. |

they wouldn't move kreider straight up for spezza, imo.
a deal i would like to see would be
spezza, greening, gryba, prospect
for
staal, moore (john), brassard, 1st
or something like that. |

it's not even close, but we also won't get berglund and shattenkirk for spezza. |

Nope not at all ,Cant blame Sather for trying though. Its going to take more than Spezza to land both players however |

So, what does Ottawa need to add in order to make it happen?
Still don't believe St. Louis can avoid getting a goaltender to start the season. |
