Claude was a solid pick every year in deep pools. You get guys who just look at regular season stats and go down the list. Easy money |

No. People want fair VALUE. And at this point its very difficult to get a sense of what the true value is. |

I'm spitballin' with Tanner in the yotes thread.
I offered the 3rd for Yandle and a 2nd, he came back with:
"I'd expand on this and see if Edmonton wasn't down for something like Yandle, the 12th, and Hanzal in exchange for #3 and Yakupov. Maybe not exactly that, but something along those lines.
Then again,if I was the Oilers, I would never ever trade Yakupov. " |

I don't get that at all from what im reading.
don't risk losing out on mdavid.
only if we know it's not a lottery.
we're not ready to move forward etc etc etc.
people love the idea of draft pick talent. and it's really become a thing in Edmonton.
many have drank the koolaid and truly think high picks year after year after year is really the answer.
I don't even wanna think about a lottery pick NEXT year.

maybe if he made that 12th Samuelsson....
yandle, hanzal and samuelsson
3rd and yaks
seems like a ton to give up, but really look at that trade. we get the puck moving top pairing guy we need. we get that defensively responsible giant 2c--with some offensive capability. and a big power winger with hands.
these are 3 of our biggest holes/needs filled. (obv samuless isn't a sure thing. but just sayin) |

Well don't go tooting your horn too loudly. In those days you basically had 4 teams to pick from annually, and usually 2 of which were in the finals.
I remember those days, when idiots would load up year after year on Flyers and Rangers and act all surprised when they had 2 players left in the conference finals. |

Yeah I'm having a hard time disagreeing with it, except Yandle only has two years left (5.25 per). Hanzal has 3 years left (3.1 per).

We aren't even proposing deals and people are talking about not trading that pick at any cost.
This isn't the standard lets move the pick for Yandle. It's "no way we should move that pick next year". |

I change my mind all the time. I would say I'm open to anything as long as it meets the following criteria.
1. The deal makes us better today.
2. The asset gained can contribute for 5-8 years.
3. The Asset gained fills a high-end role (top 2 Center, top pair D).
What I don't care about is whether the pick is the better player 5 years down the road ,don't give a (frank) about winning trades, just winning hockey games. |

fair point.
I suppose ud wanna get a gauge of yandle's likeliness to resign.
just a side note; was thinking about the potential upside and losses of that trade.
hanzal for the 3rd--draisaitl/bennet.
obviously we'd all love kopitar, but would we be really that upset if we drafted them nd they turned into a hanzal type instead? I actually think that type of 2c is ideal for the roster we have.
and then let's say yaks turns into a 40 goal guy, but yandle continues to be one of the best puck moving offensive dmen in the game. while Samuelsson turns into a true power forward that can score. 25 goals-55 points. beast.
I think we're better off with the latter |

great post.
I really agree with the last part.
I mentioned it in my previous post about the proposed pho deal etc.
of course it's scary to think of losing a true superstar snipe in yaks, but we can still be the better TEAM and win games long term with what we've gained.
I do understand that people have visions of kopitar etc or toews when they see ld and sb, but are we effed if we get hanzal instead?? certainly not.
and the obvious help we get now. that we so desperately need. |

That would be very tempting. I'd try to squeeze a pick or something more out of them. |

Like I said over there, if we are getting a top pairing d-man and a two-way physical center and the cost is one roster player and a futures, then we really can't dismiss that trade.
Even if we give up the best piece, it would be damn hard to turn down. |

I don't know if Yandle is the guy we want to lead our top pairing for the time being. EDM needs a guy that can handle the crazy competition there is in the division. Yandle has to play some pretty sheltered minutes. |

Maybe it's just me, but I feel that if we drafted a forward this year and he makes the NHL next year that odds are he would be better elsewhere.
How do fit another young forward into our mix? Kid(s) seems like they'd get short changed here. However we deal said pick to say a PHX and all of a sudden I can see them using the kid more. |

I would agree and I would want a top 2 two way guy. But MacT seems to think a top puck mover is missing. |

Who can though?
Need to start somewhere and there isn't exactly a lot of options. At some point we have to take who we can and develop an on ice strategy that works with what we have.
Yandle can move the puck. Might be up to Eakins to change his style so that we use his and Schultz's puck moving abilities. |

EDM needs a guy that makes Schultz play sheltered minutes. If they get Yandle, he's in the exact same situation. |

Never hear much about Bogosian anymore.....has he hit the skids or is he just in the middle of a fairly deep roster of D-Men. A few years ago he seemed like a decent all around player. |
