These secondary pieces you have to be careful of the term- see Belanger, Eric
- saskoil21

I hear ya but Pouliot is in his prime - only about 28 years old and is an excellent skater with a bit of edge. Belanger was a face off specialist. Much less risk here.

Well to be honest its do or die for Lander especially... He might only be a career AHLer at best... and for Klefbom he is only bottom 6/7 for at least another season so yes AHL would be best for him... I did not hear of Khaira barely being an WHLer- source??
- saskoil21

he just means his lack of production in the WHL is cause for concern. He did play on a very defence first team and was new to the league though

He was strong in his first few games. After coming back from injury he seemed to play hesitant hopefully the injury was lingering rather than mentally playing different to avoid injury if that makes sense
- CrustyRooster

Yes. He needs to play a gritty tough style or he is not going to cut it.

He did not stand out in the WHL. And was not very good with OKC in the playoffs.

He will have to make some huge strides this year to even get in contention for a roster spot.

whoa. Who said that? All reports I heard were positive. That he looked like he could fill the 2C/3C role in OKC next year

Khaira feels like a Pitlick clone to me, except actually playing the C position. I am not hopeful.

He wasnt "great". But yes I see him as 3C in OKC. But he has a long ways to go before getting into contention for the Oil.

from what I've seen at development camps, the prospect tournament, and the preseason he looks like a solid prospect. Big, tough on the boards, could be a net front guy on the PP. I like him as a prospect more than I like Pitlick

My thoughts exactly...

Khaira played much the same as I remembered him in training camp this year; he uses his size well along the offensive boards to win puck battles and isn’t afraid to drive the net, and he has some decent skill. In the absence of Winquist he was playing first line centre and though I didn’t keep a tally he certainly won more draws than he lost, and he was on the first unit PP. He’s got good speed for a big guy and he really seems to think the game well and use his linemates to advantage.

It’s hard to really tell with just one viewing but he looked like a guy who drives the play, and late in the game he was being double shifted and was making things happen regardless of which line he was on. He’s a centre with size and skill who judging from his numbers is equally adept scoring or passing and plays a physical game and makes his linemates better, all of which the Oilers are lacking, so he’s well positioned to succeed if he keeps progressing and there’s no reason to think he won’t.

He has a way to go but many think he can develop into something good here... I was way pre-mature with enlisting him but he is far from a right off...

Agreed. I think he still has a good chance to turn out but has a ways to go.

Offense is big for me because it's so hard to bring to the next level and if it isn't there at Jr it likely wont be there after the player graduates. And 43 points in 59 games for a guy who was so much more physically mature than his peers is really not good. Basically I have him penciled in for 2-3 years at the AHL level before getting a real shot at the NHL unless he has a massive offensive breakout.

I think his offence will translate similar to Pitlick's, so ya he'll probably take 2.5-3 years in the minors before getting a shot in EDM but could still be an effective 3rd line C when he gets there.

I mean look at Ewanyk. That guy had a 23P season on the 2nd best team in the WHL and still managed to be a pretty effective player for OKC while managing a respectable (for him) 12P

As long as our current prospects are given time to develop I think some will be NHL'ers....but now is not the time to fill our roster with kids. Get some UFA's on 3 year deals and start graduating kids slowly.

Stauffer made some sort of hint last week about how Pouilot wouldn't be an option. Think it was because of the cost.

He only made 1.3 mill last year? What did he think he would be getting?

He was great last year too, so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

I liked the Perron trade. Didn't like the draft nor did I like a bunch of his signings. I am happy he wasn't successful on Clarkson like he tried for but we seemed to add 4 5-6 dmen and weird contracts like Omark and Greb. I think he was hot and cold last summer.
