Ya, that's what all the top picks a few years down the road are compared to. Just like Hedman, Larsson, Jones, Ekblad etc.. are all Prongers or Lidstroms in the making. Murray is suppose to be a Nidermayer. Hopkins was suppose to be a Datsyuk, Mackinnon was another Crosby. - Lahey
And nothing against any of those guys. They all still could become Prongers, Lidstroms, Crosby's etc.., but how long will it take them to hit those levels? |

Many compare him to Crosby and use words like 'generational'.... I dont know enough about him other than what I read - fortunately the microscope will be on him all this upcoming year... - saskoil21
So you would consider trading 2 of the best oilers for a guy you heard is really good? |

I don't see how McDavid is so good. He didnt' seem to stand out at the WJC's and that is the only it I've seen of him. However, the USA kid did seem to play harder and better. |

Agree- but damn- MacKinnen was outright impressive in the Avs playoff run... the kid was molding into his own and dominating the game at 18 yrs or maybe he is 19 now... |

All I know is Hall and Eberle have proven they can play and produce in the NHL. Im sure Mcdavid is going to be really good, but I have my doubts he will be Crosby good. My guess is he will be duchene to tavares good at best. |

I have almost zero doubt in my mind that we have enough pure talent in our forward ranks. Just need some defensive acumen , a bit of size and truculence in the supporting cast. Having 2 #1 lines is great, but I don't want to be the modern day Penguins. |

If you got a shot at Crosby type potential- u (frank)ing take it... The best in the world is the best in the world... generational talent... - saskoil21
Who won the Lindros trade? Philly or Quebec/Colorado? I dont think its even close. Colorado won that trade hands down. No way I would trade Hall/Ebs + for McDavid. |

We're all aware of the potential pitfalls involved with trading a first round pick in a draft like next years. It doesn't take a genius to realize that any shot at a player of McDavid's pedigree should be treasured. However, we also hold the belief that the addition of a proven talent that can significantly impact the roster in a positive way is something that needs to be treasured equally. We've had enough high picks and skill players and so should you.
If there's a deal out there that brings in such a player (preferably a Dman) in exchange for a package including the 2015 1st, then I take it every day of every week ever. - MaximumBone
We should only be making trades that are a slam dunk win for us. Anything else, we might lose!!
Next step is to find the gm's that are as interested in losing trades and improving the oilers as we are
thank god we didn't take the risk on perry for comrie |

Honestly Kessel worked out Ok for the leafs. Dougie will be the deciding factor i think, but the trade seems a little more evened out than a couple years ago.
If the Oil can get a bonifide top pair Dman for the 2015 first, that should help more than another kid, unless it's Mcdavid. But if the Oilers with a top Dman finish last or bottom 5 again maybe they deserve not to have that pick. I am tired of prospects and drafts and the "next big thing" It is time to compete. - abware
Well said.
Some have completely drank the koolaid and have gotten way too enamoured with the next saviour draft pick sure superstar.
As far as toronto, they got one of the purest scorers in the game.
Long term hamilton will be the difference, but it isnt as horrible as it once was
you kill it.
Basically, just continue to say stuff- and ill reply with "this" |

This
We forget that 'proven nhl talent' is a good thing.
however, I think many of the dreamers actually like the idea of imagined draft pick talent moreso |

Basically, they handed the Nordiques all the missing pieces (save 1-Patrick Roy) to win a few Stanley Cups. |

Still a fan fav of mine. Besides the big guns, Deadmarsh, C Lemiuex, and Valeri Kamensky were some of my favorite Nordiques/Avs |

Trading for Kessel was bringing in talent that can impact a roster. There's so many moves that need to get done just to get out of the dumpster and EDM is world renowned for staying there. If that pick ends up being Seguin-level and EDM dealt it for an Ehrhoff, thats killer |

And if he turns into something like Spezza, he will be a bust.
But good points. We have to get those missing pieces around our existing drafted talent. |

I won a pile of playoff pools over the years picking those guys. I think I had Deadmarsh, Kamensky and Lemiuex for 4 years running.... |
