IMO he doesn't have the top end skill we need.
We need guys with 30-40 goal 70-80 point potential. We shouldn't be moving any big peices for anything less.
I like O'Reilly, but the guy is not a good enough offensive player IMO.
People say he's Bergeron, but Bergeron has had two 70 point seasons by the age of 21. - OneKaneOneCup
And was a combined -25 in those two seasons
So he must have stunk defensively (sarcasm)
O'Reilly scored 28goals this year
Only 25 guys put more pucks in the net than him
I'd say that's pretty good offense
And he's gotten better stats every year
Plus he's good defensively
And he just turned 23 in Feb
That all sounds good to me
PS. Bergeron hasn't gotten 70pts since

Hodgson and Ennis would have both performed much better on Colorado . You are surrounded by talent there and there was stability not the flux the endured in Buffalo . What is O'Reilly going to teach Myer's about playing professional hockey.
The difference we build more assets up and have another year to evaluate them better before we ship any of them of . Colorado is not moving him !!!! And Buffalo is not the place for him yet !!!! They have a plan here Murray is going to fill voids and make no major moves till after the 2015 draft . You really need to learn some patience . This rebuild is not going to happen in two years as you wish . It won't take 5 either . We are not going to sniff the playoffs till the 16- 17. Then hopefully we have a nice 8 to 10 year run of being in the hunt for the cup every season. season . The kids are going to have to be bad before they get good. - Maximum Signal
Agree Hodgson & Ennis score more on the AVs
But O'Reilly is also MUCH better defensively

He also played wing all year on a top heavy team. |

Would they have been ? He did not make us that much better when you look back at it . Political atmosphere around here would not let them not match that offer sheet . - Maximum Signal
Edmonton finished 18th in the league in 07/08 (3pts out of 8th in the west).
Vanek IMO would've propelled them into the playoff's thus allowing them to sign better UFA's the following offseason.
IMO it's naive to think they would've been so terrible that Buffalo would've been drafting in the top 5 those years with Edmonton's picks let alone their own.

Well if most people want him then we should just offer Myers straight up for him right? why keep messing around if that's the player they want to start the rebuild.
The AVS want a D man so make it a 1 for 1 and be done with it, IMO ROR doesn't leave the AVS but the Sabres may or may not move Myers. - SABRES 89
Like I've said...
I'm sure the AVs don't want to move him
But we have a surplus of "#2" centers on the roster and in the pipeline
If I can turn say Ennis into a two-way guy then I'm game to go after him
Idk if I'd give up Myers, I prob would
But the point is that I think ROR could be a nice part of the future here
So if he becomes available, we should look into it at least and see what the price would be

He blocks shots and will take a run at Chara.... People confuse balls with leadership. Who knows how good of a captain he actually is. All I know is the team he left got better, and the team he went to got swept - OneKaneOneCup
Bingo!
If he weren't from Rochester, nobody would give a flying fornication about him. |

No Glue please . Another over rated idea. His leadership is greatly over rated . The team he led , got swept in the first round . The team he left advanced further than they ever did with him . No thanks to that leadership . Being from western New York does not guarantee he is a leader. You just are not going to get lots of folks agreeing with you on part 1 or part 2 of your agenda for Mr Murray.
Sorry - Maximum Signal

This I agree with. He's playing wing because they had Stastny, Duchene, and MacKinnon ahead of him on the depth chart. |

True but people over rate him and others like him every day.
I had an argument with the Pens blogger about Cally, he tried to convince me that he was the Rangers best player on a team that included Nash, Stepan and McDonagh. |

They lost cause the other team scored more.
He had zero goals and zero points.
While goaltending was a major factor in their 1st rd exit, he didn't help them either. |

Him going scoreless didn't help either.
Again, his "leadership" at some point becomes over rated when his teams constantly under achieve.
What does it tell you when a team loses their captain yet makes it farther then they ever had with him ? |

4games is a small sample size
I guess Pitt should trade Crosby bc he only scored 1goal in the playoffs
Also, Callahan is a depth scorer
He's not exactly a guy I'd expect to light up the scoresheet |

On a loaded team...... He's a good player, not a 1st line talent.
He's a better version of Jordan Staal, he's not Bergeron |

He's not I guy I expect to do much, which is why all the talk of 6-7 mil for 5-7 yrs is a joke for him.
He's a 2nd line player that in 3 years will be getting 3rd line minutes, that to me is worth 3-4 mil per. Not a dime more. Some team will sign him to the deal he wants. I only hope that team isn't the team I root for. It's cap suicide. |

That McDonough and Staal have grown into really good defensemen
And the new coach prob had a little something to do with it also
cbus got better after they traded Gaborik & Carter...
But those guys weren't useless were they?
The correlation you're trying to make is faulty at best

Where is the proof that he's a great leader? Where are the results? Why was it so easy for New York to move on?
I've been waiting months for someone to answer this. Ranger fans have already forgotten about him |

2) I never said he was a top line player. I said he could be a good PIECE for the future
Do u really think its a bad idea to get a 23yr old that plays good defensively and will score 25+ goals?

When they don't have to be "The Guy" sure they have value.
When Carter was "The Guy" he was as useless as tits on a bull. Put he and Gabby on a stacked team, they all of a sudden look like the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Callahan would be "The Guy" here and will fail flat on his face, IMO so would the organization if they were to sign him. He's not the guy you sign at this time. In 3 yrs? Sure you go out and sign a guy like him. Not now. |

29 scored more or the same as him as the place on the list is based on points when the goals are even.

For the record...
I never said to go get Cally
I said I wouldn't be upset if we did
Why?
Who's our leaders for these next 3yrs before we make a move like that?
Staff, Stewart, Ehrhoff, Weber...
These are the elders that are gonna show our youth the way to play the game
That seems like a horrible idea to me
It doesn't have to he Callahan
But we should do something
