Tough to argue Nash didn't perform well enough for the amount of money he's being paid, but damned if he didn't look to be giving his best most of the time he was on the ice. He just couldn't sink the puck. - wolfhounds
I don't think I've seen a player that snake bitten in a long time. They guy did everything but put the puck in the net. You'd have to think that if the Rangers make it to the dance again, it'll be a different story. |

Anybody think Dustin penner would be a decent LW if he could be got for cheap? He sure looked good in Anaheim the first part of the year. |

Interesting comments from Doug Wilson, "It's all the veteran guys. If a guy's 31 or 32 or 33, and we're going to rebuild, does it fit for them? It might not. ... The rebuild is going to take place regardless. We're committed to it and whatever things we need to do to get to that point. We didn't trade our first-round pick last year, we're not trading it this year and we're not trading it next year and probably the year after. That's the phase we're in."
I don't really know what phase the Flyers are in. Hextall seems to say we are building through the draft, but if we want the team to be a cup contender our draft picks are the Flyers only currency besides young players and prospects. I guess I think it would be more effective for the Flyers to decide what its cup window is and make moves with that in mind.
If that is this year, fantastic. Make the trades to get us there. If it's four years down the road, commit to rebuilding now by trading away guys who might not fit in that window for draft picks or younger players. |

Bill says they aren't in a re-build. To me they should be. Not to say deal all the talent you have, keep the good young stuff up front. But yeah...

Logic bomb. - wolfhounds
The best player from our weak spot doesn't mean he's any good or we should keep him. If it isn't good enough what's the point in the end. There's your logic bomb |

Wouldn't call it a rebuild. More like a re-tooling, especially on D.
There, IMO, 3-4 players away from being a legit threat. I say 3-4 because I think one of them is and will be Laughton. |

It was a bit all over the place, but it boils down to:
If the Flyers don't think they can win the cup in the next couple years (which is where I am unless we get lucky with a trade), then they should trade some of the older players away even if it means missing the playoffs for a couple years. Help restock the prospect pool, so we can contend in the nearer future. |

Marc Savard LTIR, 10% summer overage, two CBO's, and a lot of very tradeable contracts makes me think they'll be just fine. - Tomahawk
10% Summer overage is temporary. They'll still need to get back to the Cap and be Cap compliant at camp, and be able to fit Savard in until opening day to maximize LTIR value. Same issue as the Flyers have. I know you're aware of this, but maybe you forgot. No guarantee that they will use a CBO. Name me the CBO candidate on that team? Who are they going to buy out, and walk away from? And sure they can trade players, but that weakens the team. They're already losing Iginla from that team, what do they do, trade another top forward?
Maybe you think they'll be just fine, but they have some issues to work out, and that bonus overage is a large hit. |
