The Ottawa Senators forward Spezza refuses to accept a trade to any of the other six Canadian teams, as well as Nashville, Columbus, Florida and the Islanders, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

Wooooo! See world, we ain't that bad!
Notice the trend though, it seems a lot of guys blackball all the Canadian teams as a group. |

Moulson isn't taking a 3 year deal. Neither will any of the top forwards. Which is why I'll be pretty annoyed when he gets his 5-6 year 6 mil per year deal here. - sbroads24
Vanek might go the Hossa route. One year high salary deal, then take the multi year deal next offseason.
A 3 yr deal for Moulson still leaves him at 33 with an opportunity to still get paid a few years. |

IMO it's either take the short term prove yourself contract, and if Vanek doesn't go to Minny I could see, or it's only sing for 6 or 7 years and guarantee yourself a ton of money.
3 year deals make little sense to guys like Moulson. He could have an injury riddled season or 2 and lose out on millions long term. |

No chance Moulson takes 3 Yrs. one injury and its over. Players in his state are 99% of the time looking for a longer term "last payday" deal. |

I hope it is. IMO, there is no reason you cant have one guy making above $5MM on this team in its current state. A guy that fills a position of need and can score at a pretty good clip as well.
I will just disagree with you on this one. |

Don't want to see any player UFA signed longer than 3 yrs from Buffalo.
Only player you sign at this point for longer than 3yrs is a difference maker. |

Well I did say 18 mil for 3 years. I see no need to go beyond 3 years for any current UFA. |

Based on the definition you gave above, I would have to argue that Kane fits it. Now, I'm not actually calling him a generational talent. Is he really freaking good? Yes. Generational? Probably what would be a notch below.
However, the things he does with the puck on the ice is just sick. Most other players would never think to attempt a lot of the stuff he does out there. So by your definition above, he would fit. - HonkFortheGoose
Spot on. Kane is one of the more creative players with the puck for sure. And I would love to see him on the Sabres, and, right now, I can't think of anyone in the league that, if it was game seven in overtime (LA series not withstanding), I would want the puck on their stick more than PKane. He's clutch.
I guess it's too soon for me to call him generational.
(It wasn't my definition. I found it on Hockey's Future.)

And I see no respectable UFA's signing for that short of time. You may be able to get the Bryan Boyles and Mike Rupps of the hockey world, but that's about it. |

Then there's no reason to sign any of them.
Take the give us your unwanted high priced contracts and a 1st for little in return approach. |

Perfect, then sign 2 of them.
In 3 years Moulson will be slower, older and not as effective.
We will need our Jeff Carter, Marian Hossa caliber players then. I don't want to be saddled with guys like Moulson in our top 6 in 3-4 years |

A. not a UFA
B. He's already Buffalo property
C. I've already been on record as saying he will get a Hodgson type deal. 5-6 years at 4.5-5 mil. |

That goes for every top UFA in this years crop(outside of maybe Stastny and Niskanen).
I'd have no problem moving Hoff and then going after Niskanen. |

Which is why I want none of the marquee names available.
75% of them end up being buy out candidates within 2 years. |

I'd be ok with them signing Niskanen to a 3+ year deal only if Hoff is moved.
Similar players, 5 yr age difference. |

I figured you actually got the definition from somewhere. And I agree that people like to throw those terms around a bit too loosely. "Elite" is another one that comes to mind.
I still remember when people had doubts that he would be a high end NHLer because of his size. Guess he proved them all wrong. |
