I'm for bringing Moulson, Ott and even Callahan in but why are we talking about bringing Soup back? We have Ehrhoff - SABRES 89
Eat's up cap space
Was 3rd in all the NHL in TOI 26:57
I'd assume if they brought in Soupy, Hoff is outta here. |

And IMO it makes a ton of sense.
We take on Campbell's contract, one of there prospects Murray likes, in return they can have a 2nd and one of our under achieving players.
Allows us to move Hoff and keep a vet around that could also wear the C for 2 years until Girgensons is ready |

Funny....the Ek Blog states that the asking price for Campbell is high. But he's a 35 year old (where does the time go?) defenceman making over 7 million....I would think Florida would be begging teams to take him off their hands. He's good, but he can't have much left in the tank, so there's only so many legit contenders he can go to and even fewer of them have the cap space. I'd be fine with taking his salary on as a favor if it got us something else, but we certainly don't NEED him. And I'm all for Moulson coming back. Give him a full-on 7 year contract....

IMO a team like the Av's or Isles should be all over Campbell.
FLA could retain some salary and get a decent peice back from either team IMO |

Agreed.
I see no issue with the move.
Follow that with a Scuds and a 1st type deal, you now have some vet presence on the back end, and gets you closer to the cap floor. |

Yet at 35 he just finished 3rd in all the NHL last season in TOI with 26:57(7 sec behind Karlsson).
He's also trade bait come the trade deadline in 15/16.
I see that as a better option than forking over big time cash and term to any UFA. |

I think they should try and get 2 picks in the 10-20 range using Hoff, pick 31, maybe Staff or Stewart (although I think they should hold off until the deadline.)
It would be nice to get 3 top 20 guys and it could be done |

I would too 3 years 18-21 mil.
Nothing more in term. You sign him to longer deal, he then starts to slow down and become more of a hinder. This team is slow enough, they need to get faster. Foot speed is always the 1st to go.
It has been shown over and over again in the past with signing 30+ year olds to long termhigh priced UFA deals. |

Well again, it's cap space too. The Sabres could take him because we can afford him, but many contending teams can't. I don't disagree with his ability. He could break down tomorrow based on his age alone. If Colorodo is hevily weighing O'Rielly vs Stasny, they certainly don't have 7+ mil to throw around on a D man. What other contending teams have the space?

He is rumored to want out.
He never wanted to leave Buffalo.
NTC (can designate eight teams he will accept a trade to; team has 45 days from date of notice received to trade him to one of those teams)
Many times though a NTC gets voided once traded. |
