I've been hoping for years that the Flyers would hire someone who helps,defensemen at the NHL level -- someone like Larry Robinson, for instance.

I don't know if Murphy is the answer, and I don't want to pretend that I know if he has really helped any defensemen become better players.

I do know this: Ever since Terry Murray left, not a single young defenseman has, to my mind, maximized their potential as a Flyer. So I welcome anyone to come in and try to change that.

Is he here to coach the D? If so, his track-record w/ young D is pretty spotty... Klesla, Russell, Kulikov... and Gudbranson is looking like he's not going to meet his potential, either.

I stand corrected. The other Jason Smith had all the charges dropped. Wonder what happened to Hockey's version.

Great... Apparently Hextall was concerned that Berube might need protection from Roy? And since he couldn't be on the bench during games Murphy was a solid add.

So the Canadiens are going to retire Guy LaPointe's number (actually, just add his name to the rafters since Geoffrion and he had the same number). He's a good player and all, but when you think of all the greats in Canadiens history, he seems a bit out of place.
