Can I see them moving either/both Schenn bros...sure.
Coburn? Nu-uh. - 77rams
Im not not sure Coburn gets moved unless there's plan "B" already in place. |

I am hopeful i'm not just losing my mind...i don't mind patience, and i don't mind building, but there has to be a plan.
Trading Schenn AND Coburn...I get that the return would be the thing, but man, if it's just picks and more young players, I would have serious questions about what the plan is, exactly. - AllInForFlyers
I think Hexy is in the process of laying the foundations of that plan in place... I don't believe that necessarily entails some sort of rebuilding, maybe just a reshuffling/reshaping.
He basically inherited a team that was partially built from 2-3 ad hoc plans patched together... first order of business is to establish some coherency. |

If you're truly going to do a rebuild, the first trade you make is Claude Giroux for a massive return.
Giroux is 26. He's not going to be in his prime forever. Eventually, his production will decline. My view is, walk the fine line and build for now and the future. There's no need to gut the team and waste the primes of Giroux, Voracek & others - Jsaquella
I am kind of baffled that Wilson is talking about being a "tomorrow team" in San Jose. They were a 100+ point team again and had a 3-0 lead over the eventual Cup champs. Something must really be wrong in the locker room for him to want to blow it up. I guess he has decided that a team with Thornton and Marleau as its two main guys is incapable of winning a Cup.

I think they are better then a lot of people suggest...they have a lot of Good pieces....How about just addressing the "elephant" in the Room.....The defence on this team. That is the teams weak link and will continue to be unless one of the kids develops or they move a signifigant piece to address it. |

I get and agree with what you are saying. My concern with the long term vision with this team is that the forwards are hitting their prime and the defense is way out of sync. I have no idea how Hexy will get a Cup contending defensive group together before the prime years of the forwards burn out.
Trading for legit top-pairing defensemen will gut youth and draft picks. Drafting and developing defensemen (which is IMO the best route) takes 5+ years for them to be groomed. To me it seems like being between a rock and a hard place. |

Hopefully Lombardi taught Hexy a trick or two. I think Hextall is going to do a competent job building this team provided there is no meddling from above. The draft and July 1 are fast approaching, obviously all the holes won't be filled in these next two weeks, but a foundation can begin. |

The real impetus for change is probably their poop prospect pool... they've raided it for years to make run after run... they've probably hit a tipping point there simultaneous with the window on their current core swinging shut. |

I think in San Jose's case it's the age and the number of playoff runs they have made. Their star guys are getting older & despite regular season successes, they haven't grabbed the full measure of glory.
In the case of the Flyers, the only key pieces that are over 30 are Hartnell, Streit & Coburn (soon). Not yet time to rip it apart. |

"For goaltenders, it has gotten to the point where anyone under 6-feet tall virtually need not apply for NHL consideration".
I do think size matters. Last off season did the Flyers not want Bernier? Bernier is 5.11 and have you seen him play? To be honest I think goalie size dose not matter as long as the goalie can be very athletic. Big forwards and D are more of my concern because the average size is increasing and smaller forwards with skill are usually less effective than the bigger forwards with skills. |

No, I'm totally serious -- I am baffled as hell at how anyone wants to start another rebuild. That was clearly an on-the-fly teardown when they traded Richards/Carter and then let Jagr walk the next offseason so Voracek would be 1RW, wasn't it?
My thing is this: You didn't re-sign Timonen to risk missing the freaking playoffs. Because you could do that without him, without risking incurring the bonus overages for next year.
Ron Hextall's gonna do what he thinks is best, and I realize I'm just a fan. But I'm not trying to hear this "rebuild again" poop -- rebuild into what? The 2014-2015 Flyers are exactly what a rebuild looks like! - AllInForFlyers
Rest assured, the Flyers are not in rebuild mode. |

Bernier was a bit established, I think Bill is referring more to draft picks/prospects. Right now, the Flyers have 3 goalies on NHL deals, they are Steve Mason and Cal Heeter (both 6'4) and prospect Anthony Stolarz (listed at 6'5) |

It's such an inane trend... can't wait until the afterglow of Rinne's monster year fades. |

I have seen almost every Knights game and you should not get your hopes up for Stolarz. |

Lots of goalies aren't NHL ready till their mid 20s. I'm not worried about Stolarz at all, but thanks for the concern troll.

He's still very, very raw. Definitely a long term project if he reaches it at all. I advocate grabbing a goalie every year. Lot of good ones were late rounders-Lundqvist, for example. |

I get the whole "he takes up more space" idea, but there's been plenty of big goalies that sucked |

I won't even lie: I will be straight pissed if it gets ripped apart this offseason.
I don't love the defense, and I recognize and acknowledge there are pieces missing in the roster of forwards.
But what they're missing in the forwards is obtainable -- like you have said, you could move Read up. You can bring in a Pouliot or a Raymond at reasoanble prices. You can bring in a Brian Boyle.
The defense isn't going to be fixed via free agency, and any trade that would be considered an upgrade is going to cost SOMETHING off the NHL roster, and it would likely be a piece that we'd just have to turn around and fill!
I say bring in a couple of two-way forwards -- one with size, one a little speedier -- move Vinny for whatever, and ride with that into the season.
That should be good enough for them to get 100 points, barring injury -- and I'm totally serious. And then you take your effing shot in the playoffs and see what happens. |

For sure... Dubnyk and Lindback went beyond suck.
Meanwhile, a standard-sized 6'1 goalie just won the Cup... again. |
