you failed to grasp but its okay it happens - Crimsoninja
If Nashville suddenly comes to the Flyers with Patrick Hornqvist and Shea Weber for Giroux and the Flyers do the deal, does that make the Giroux signing a bad one because they went in a different direction so soon after they signed him?
Maybe its a far fetched example, but the point is that no matter who you sign and for how much/how soon after...if the right deal comes along and you take it, it doesn't make the signing bad.

Exactly! There's no bad decision making there on the Flyers part, unless you disagree with the return on the trade.

Absolutely. Nobody is saying that. I have zero issue with the signing of Carter. Look at his play in the playoffs. He's a bargain.
The difference is, the Flyers didn't sign Jeff Carter to an 11 year deal and get a call out of the blue with a great offer. They were actively shopping him around the league, less than a year after they signed him to the 11 year deal.
Getting blown away by an offer is one thing, but that isn't what happened in the case of Carter

In hindsight it's an even better trade than I first thought, and I liked it immediately.
My issue is the process. They liked a guy so much they signed him to an 11 year deal, then 12 months later, they were shopping him around the NHL |

The genesis of when the trade discussions began doesn't change anything. It still doesn't point to bad decision making. Because nothing detrimental happened to the team. Signing a player to an 11 year deal, doesn't preclude the team from coming to a decision on whether to accept a proposed trade from another team, after the signing. If anyone feels the trade was a good trade, then no part of it can be considered a bad decision . |

All I know is I dont want to see any more centers drafted with the first pick and played out of position, or more meh left handed defensemen.
I dont care if they are from Novosibirsk, Tampere, Smiths Falls, or from the red planet Mars, or come through a Stagrate for the draft, get a LW, best remaining at 17 |

Roland McKeown, D, Kingston – “He was my captain for a couple years. He skates very well, he can do everything very well. There’s nothing that he struggles with. I assume he’s going to be a very high pick and I’m really excited to see where he ends up.”-Connor McDavid
Roland McKeown’s skating ability is at an elite level and features excellent speed and acceleration both forwards and backwards, great pivots, excellent lateral agility, and fantastic edgework.Offensively, McKeown shows confidence and poise with the puck on his stick, and is really developing into a solid two-way defenceman. His offensive game is keyed by smart decision making and excellent passing skills.

That is my pitch for why we should take McKeown. |

That's why I like Tuch and Barbashev a little more than Larkin at 17. They're wingers.
Mark Edwards of Hockey Prospectus on Barbashev & Tuch:
“The first time I saw Barbashev play was three years ago and he was the
laziest player on the ice. He must have been feeling sick or something that day because I have never seen a trace of that since. He competes hard, is a smart player, has skill and plays well in all three zones. He could make an NHL team earlier than some may expect.”
On Tuch "I love his blend of size and skill. Some NHL scouts have told me
they think he lacks skill but I disagree. He remind me a bit of Max Pacioretty"

Most think the Flyers are a few tweaks away from contention. There was some debate about the value of Ekblad. Draft ranking from ob. Ethics debate on trading players after signing them long term with a focus on Carter. I'm sure I missed some.
(Edit): And the Flyers hired Gord Murphy and let go Paddock. |

We'd better not go into another rebuilding phase, or i'm gonna be pissed
Florida can suck it if they want Braydon Coburn and Brayden Schenn
Anybody who mentions Patrick Sharp or Justin Williams used to be Flyers is getting pistol-whipped
Trust me, that's pretty much it...
