You're right there is risk. However, I'll counter those guys with Doughty, Pieterangelo, and Hedman all drafted within the top 5 and are either studs or pretty darn close. - ravishingone
no doubt... but to give up the Schenns, Ghost and #17 for a 50/50 shot that Ekblad is the next doughty, AP, or Hedman... thats a tall order. I prefer more certainty if I'm going to give up that much especially since they can get a duncan keith or shea weber on a lucky hit later in the draft. thats just me though. I would understand if that trade was made. ekblad is a stud from everything I've read. |

I really cant see trading BSchenn. Even in a deal for 1st overall. Our depth at LW is god awful. And if we find a taker for Vinny on top of that then what? Move Coots and Read up to the 2nd line? Go back to Hartnell on the 1st line? What is our third line then? Raffl Akeson and Laughton? That isnt a whole lot of NHL experience... |

Even with Couturier and Schenn being our rising stars, there is too much being put into inexperience and youth at forward. Couturier, Schenn, Raffl, Akenson, Bellemare and Laughton are all still developing players and they all take over half of 12 forward spots. |

I'm gonna go on record and say that if the flyers brass has any brains and they go on these boards they should hire bill, jsaq, ob and mjl. Not only are they brilliant, but they're deeply committed. |

If I'm Hexy my plan right now is to find out what teams are seriously interested in Vinny. From there analyze who else those teams may also have interest in. You might only get a pick for Vinny, which is fine. But if you can find a deal where you can package him with say, Grossmann and get yourself a decent, expeirenced LW or D man... that's the kind of move im looking for before shopping the kids. |

If our forward line up looks even remotely like this heading into next season, I'm gonna wish we just kept Lecavalier. I'm especially not looking to move Grossmann just to do so. We s ttyl8r ill need a 7th defenseman and dividing Grossmann doesn't help this. Timonen resigned to win a Cup and we better help him get it. PERIOD! |

Thats why if you were doing that, it would be for a mini-rebuild where the next two or so years might be a tad lean. |

If you trade Vinny for a pick youre getting cap room to play with. You could probably add a guy like Jussi Jokinen to that lineup and demote Rinaldo. |

Signing a guy like Vincent Lecavalier or trading for a player like Chris Pronger sends the message to me as a fan that we're all in. Signing unknowns like Bellemare and Raffl while practically guaranteeing them a spot before they've even set foot in North America doesn't. I know it sounds wildly crazy and I know I'm on an island completely alone but once we trade Lecavalier my confidence and enthusiasm that we're going to win will start to diminish. If we're moving a top six NHL player, I want something along the same lines of impact in return. Somehow, someway. |

Even if Schenn isn't dealt, I'd still be looking to move Read into the top six. There's quite a few solid role players in free agency, some that can be had pretty cheaply.
I'd rather sign a guy like Brian Gibbons, who has good speed and did a very solid job for the Pens, as a 4th liner than spend a ton of cash on a veteran scoring line winger. I think Read would be fine in a top six role.
And if Schenn is dealt there's a handful of NHL vets in UFA, guys like Dominic Moore and Brian Boyle from the Rangers, Vern Fiddler for Dallas, Marcel Goc for the Pens or even Michal Handzus as a stop gap from the Hawks.
Even in discussing all these moves, they may end up doing very little. Hell, they might not even find a taker for Vinny |

I've already given my opinion of what the Pens should do with Jokinen on my buyout list. I have no issue with Rinaldo. He's a role player. Grinder. He's developing within his role just like Couturier and Schenn. Rinaldo can only get better. |

#cupaftercup - flyerscup2011
It was difficult to choose which should be GM and which should be Coach but since MJL isn't one to join in on name names and fantasies of bringing certain players here, plus a pretty good attention to detail, I made him coach. |

I bring up Ghost because of his family being from FLA, his national exposure in the Frozen Four, and long-term a replacement for Campbell.
I guess my basic premise is if Ekblad is considered a true blue chip defensive prospect, a high price shouldn't be a deterent, especially for this organization. Of course, he better turn out to be Doughty and not become another Bogosian. To your point, what would be a fair draft pick exchanged? A 4th in this year's draft? - ravishingone
I think I'll take the player we already got in Ghost, pair him with Morin and let them be our future top pairing. With Guys like Hagg and Alt and other Defensemen we may draft in the near future, we should have a working influx of D. Plus keeping a 20-30 goal scorer in Brayden Schenn and who knows, maybe Luke develops into a bit more of his hype paired with A-Mac for a year.
We are moving a lot of important pieces for one egg in a basket, when any of the ones we are trading could easily turn out better.
This is the kind of trade that has resulted in us having no real good prospects. |

I liked Akeson, Coots and Read together. I kind of want to see that line kept together. Akeson could be brought on cheap as a LW, and I thought they all worked well together.

One additional concern is that it's one thing to draft a defenseman with a home grown pick and another thing to trade a lot of assets for that pick. Add on the Philly pressure cooker and you are guaranteeing his early departure in a trade for Matt Ellison's sock tape within 3 years . |

I'll give Akeson the credit of saying that he had serious jump while playing for the big club during the playoffs. Most young players do when they're trying to make an impression. However, I felt like he was out muscled in all areas of the ice and slow to react in a few cases. My biggest issue isn't so much with him but the make of the team once Lecavalier is gone. Too many young developing players in the line up. |
