If the rest of your players are good possession players, and you have a coach that relies on tactics that optimize possession, you can afford to carry one or more of Greene/Mitchell/Regehr at a time.

Wingers getting faster every year. Nhl is being played at a faster pace which makes it more exciting . Grossmann type players will be useless in 5 years .

Would anybody like the Flyers to make offers to Brian Boyle and Pouliot say, 3 year deals . Boyle is one of those " shot blockers" and plays a physical game while Pouliot can provide speed and grit. I would rather have Boyle than Rinaldo

Getting rid of VL and Hartnell would help.

But I would be happy if Hextall just upgrades the D .

When you have Drew Doughty in the lineup you can have Matt Greene playing third pairing minutes. Who's the Flyers version of Doughty?

I don't love Grossmann as much as some, but my thing is this: He's not the biggest problem on the roster.

They lost to the Rags because they didn't have the ability to score at even strength -- and yes, I totally believe an elite defenseman can help,that, but come on -- the biggest need for this team is make sure they have forwards who can out the puck in the net, generate offense at even strength, against GOOD teams.

That is not to say the Flyers can't score goals -- they can. But they need to be a little better at even strength against those top 6-8 teams in the league. And i think they can be, with smart purchases in free agency -- I mean, seriously. They can ABSOLUTELY improve the fourth line. They can get a two-way winger for the third line.

These are things they can do that will help them immediately.

There's a natural tendency to fall in love with guys we see a lot of because their teams made the Finals, but I think they get really overrated in the process.

I don't want to get stuck paying average/above-average guys like Kopecky, Burish, Ference, Scuderi, Ryder a premium based on how well their teams did.

A Russian forward? Probably not going to happen. Wasn't thrilled with what I saw from Barbashev in the WJC, but obviously a small sample.
