Wait until others arrive!!
Didn't know he signed a long term deal already? If the Sabres can sign him to a 3/4 year deal, not bad! These 6/7 year deals are what is killing professional sports. Looking forward to next week. - Irish 14
There's no way he signs a short term deal here. The only way he signs a short term deal is if it's with a legitimate contender. Otherwise the Union will be whispering in his ear to up the guaranteed money. |

People want to wait 3/4 more years! Tank again this year, lose the lottery or McDavid gets hurt, NHL changes Draft system..........anything can happen?
After this draft we will have a stockpile of prospects in Jr's, AHL and NCAA. Time to get some FA to teach these young players how to be men! - Irish 14
Next year is the big draft with all the depth . We already have 3 first round picks. Why not one of them at the top to get that generational talent . I love how you say what if he gets hurt . Yes I would put odds on whoever we get having a career ending injury . Free agency has failed on so many levels . The only successful free agent signing that has helped a team win a cup is Hossa . That is because he is not the center piece there. Patience is the key to long term success and not another run to eighth and a first round exit . |

I agree, because I believe he's way too smart to sign the above mentioned all those aforementioned contracts. Like it or not, Darcy Regier put this team in a position where they need to draft (key word draft) a player worth building a franchise around. The best place to find that right now is in 2015. Some fans may be right. They may not make it all the way down to #1 or #2, but it's still the best chance this team has of winning a Cup within the next ten years by a country mile. These free agents get this team, at best, wallowing around 8th place again, nothing more. They might actually get them into the playoffs, but the Sabres will never be a contender with those guys. They're all too old. |

Totally agree. I don't want yesterday's stars. We didnt come all this way to proverbially blow our load in free agency. |

There is a downside in that he's not the most consistent. His numbers in the regular season have been ordinary. There's a reason he was never drafted. What makes him attractive is his history of turning on another gear when the stakes are really high (i.e. the playoffs). The problem is that you have to get there first. |

Not what I'm saying? Many of you drink the Kool-Aid around here!
This years draft is huge in the direction of this club moving forward:
- trades
- draft of top talent
- see what kind of cherries Murray has in his first draft?
Bringing in some FA with leadership is a key, never said Richards was the answer. Has to be the right fit, in my mind Callahan is that fit for many reasons:
- Character
- Leadership
- Top 6 forward
- #1 PK
- Cap Floor
Girgs should be in his hip pocket the next couple of years. |

I'd love to see him get a few games in the NHL to see how he reacts. |

I think eventually he'll be okay. I predict, however, the early stages of his NHL career will be very rocky. From what it sounds like, he has a bit of a zany Bryzgalov-type personality to him, but to a lesser extent. |

The great thing about being in the position we are in is we can give guys like Makarov a crack at it. It's not like we have aging superstars in their last years at having a crack at the cup. And with Makarov, there is something there. Not saying he will be a star, but something is there. |

He is young yet .No telling how good he will be goalies are so unpredictable . Tough to predict what direction they will go . Just keep drafting one every year till one separates himself from the rest. |

Agreed, but to say there's not a downside to him is just blatantly inaccurate. I do believe he'll end up being a good, possibly even very good NHL goaltender. I also think it's going to take him a little while longer than we all would like. |

Hasek had a downside at Chicago!
My point is that you just never know when it comes to goalies? |

We do not need this so called leadership yet . With Callahan's style of play he will be an overpaid 4th liner by the team is relevant . If he is not broken down from his style of play . Then we can resent him , they way fans around the league resent thier overpaid free agent flops . Sounds like a plan !

"WE DONT NEED LEADERSHIP YET"
You are kidding right? We haven't had a true captain on this team since Drury? Leadership on this team has been one the of the main reasons for their failures.
Please delete that statement? You are better than that Max! |
