I have friends in two NHL organizations ( not the Sabres ) and they both have really high opinions of him . They think he will be a gem with some more polishing. For some reason the big ones take longer i.e. Chara and Pronger . I can't get the one saying out of my head that has been said to me . You can't teach size , also they love his skating ability . When I asked about Ekblad . The one said to me yes he is playing with boys now . What happens when he starts playing with men . Neither sees him as a franchise defense man . But neither one of their organizations are drafting near the top of the draft so maybe it is just sour grapes since they do not have a shot at him . Ekblad is going to take his time to develop as well so I am not willing to get rid of Myer's to draft him as we are starting over again . And Maybe Ekblad disappoints . We know what we have with Myers at this point and we have seen flashes of what he could be

I don't wanna get too into Myers vs Ekblad bc its pretty clear we just aren't going to agree
And clearly, neither of us can actually prove our point. Its just our opinions

But as far as Myers goes...
I this k your last line sums it up
"We have seen flashes"
We haven't seen a consistent upwards trend, which is what worries me
I appreciate your confidence, I'm just not as sure as u... Although I still hope he can be good, I just don't know how good.
And like I said before...
Its not really his offense that worries me
For him to be a top pair guy in the league, he needs to be MUCH better defensively
I am very interested to see what this year brings though

Good post. Ekblad will be good but not all world necessarily. It's quite possible he never turns out be as great a player as Myers likely will be.aside from all that, Meyers is at the perfect stage of his development for this rebuild and a cornerstone!to build upon.

Another point to consider...
30 franchises also didn't see Weber as a "franchise" defenseman
Otherwise he wouldn't have gone 2nd round
Same with Keith, Chara, Lidstrom, etc etc etc
The examples are numerous

I'm not too worried about what two particular guys have to say
The overwhelming opinion on Ekblad is that he's at minimum a 20+ minute, top pair guy that will play in all situations

Of course mistakes are made
But from what I've seen, Ekblad will be extremely good

I think Ekblad will have a better career than Myers

Pretty sure lindy didnt like his defensive game and they told him to pass it out instead of carrying it. They wanted him to scrap the best part of his game. It was a disaster. His whole game seemed to get better when he was allowed to carry it out- somewhat with rolston, moreso with nolan. He started to play with much more confidence. I see what you see, but theres no denying he turned a corner last year.

If you are so sure of that why aren't you a scout . By the way Shea Weber was a 2nd round pick . There is no sure thing . Lots of defensive busts at the top of the draft .

Whatever dude , jealousy will get you nowhere. By the way you would sell your soul to have met all the folks I have had the opportunity to meet . I have been in every NHL rink multiple times running rock shows you would be surprised how the people in the building with the hockey franchise want to get to know you.

Erik rasmussen. We havent had that many top 10 picks in the last 20 years. However that may be the worst draft class ever. I would love to take a shot at some of darcys oopsies like kruikov, novotny, heisten, and zagrapan, but the were in the mid teens where its a crap shoot.

Not to defend Darcy in the least but for a little while there Quinn and Galisano cut most of the scouts and they could only use video . We did not do to well in those drafts .

Max, here is the question...having these friends in two organizations...is Myers actually available if Murray's price is met? Just seems to me that Myers name was thrown around at the trade deadline and now as the draft approaches, and I don't mean by HB members but by so called hockey reporters, as they say where there is smoke there's fire. I could be wrong but I'm just not sure Murray has the same outlook on Myers as you do.

Don't know if he is or not . The price should be a lot higher than people in here suggest . Just from what others in the NHL feel about him. Murray is not looking to trade him , but is there is a deal that knocks his socks off . Anyone can be traded.
