whats not to like about guance? big PPG power forward?

has the size to be a success at the pro level.. the type of centres the leafs desperately need in the system actually

getting the 9th overall pick in the draft for a starting goalie is actually really good value. look at what LA got for Bernier.

i think Gillis deserved to get canned but i thought way too much was made of the goalie situation. it was mismanaged yes but at the end of the day, he got good value for Schneider and unloaded the Luongo contract. they don't have a goalie right now but there are always goalies available in the summer.

Difference is that Schneider was Vancouvers STARTING Goalie, not backup.
He played more than Lu and was the starter in their playoffs.
If LA traded Quick, than you can make a comparison.
In one year, Vancouver traded Corey Schneider AND Roberto Luongo. In return they got a 1 first rd pick (9th overall), Shawn Matthias, and Jacob Markstrom.
So for two starting goalies, they got a pick, a 3rd-4th liners, and a goalie prospect.

9th overall picks, starting from the year 2000. Brent Krahn, Tuomo Ruutu, Petr Taticek, Dion Phaneuf, Ladislav Smid, Brian Lee, James Sheppard, Logan Couture, Josh Bailey, Jared Cowen, Dylan McIlrath, Dougie Hamilton, Jacob Trouba.

How many of those players would you trade a starting goalie like Corey Schneider for? 1-3? so there's about a 15% chance they got value for him when trading a number 9.

OK but what is the market for goalies? you're talking as though goalies are being traded for blue chip prospects all around. they're not. getting a top-10 pick for a guy like Schneider (who had 55 career wins as a 27 yo at the time) is good value. like i said, i understand the argument AGAINST trading Schneider. but i think they got good value. and i think unloading Luongo, regardless of the fact that they dealt Schneider earlier, was the right thing to do.

i agree the situation was mismanaged, my only point was that it's not the epic train wreck most people make it out to be.
