I just got laughed at in the Hawks thread for saying that. - golfingsince
(frank)......it wasn't even close!
EDIT: Just read the convo....if it comes down to Doughty VS. Keith I take Doughty all day. He's more solid on the puck, more physical, and overall more talented. I also think he has better hockey sense. Not saying Keith isn't good, but Doughty is slightly better in ever category IMO. |

No kidding. Of course, some of the Hawks fans think that they have by far the best core in the league. When asked to name a better one and suggested the Kings, again the laughter. |

You could argue top 4 vs top 4 that Chicago is better. But overall the Kings are built deeper.
Players like Voynov, Martinez, Williams, Stoll, King, Richards. Maybe they aren't considered "core" players, but they're as deep and as good as anyone in the league. |

The way I see it, LA's core is just built differently. Those guys aren't getting moved unless somebody severely overpays for them. Chicago on the other hand would really like to change out some of those secondary players like Oduya, Sharp, etc.

Canucks.
Edit: I agree with your edit 100%. Norris trophies are kind of a sham anyways, or else Weber would have one by now. |

Ya Weber gets ripped every year. Zero coverage of Nashville. |

I just wanted some non-biased hockey opinions on Keith/Doughty really. I don't like either of those (frank)ers personally but when it comes to Team Canada I feel Doughty is the man. |

Anyone hear the mock draft on the Fan960?
All 3 guys had Calgary grabbing Bennett at 4....which I'm perfectly fine with - The-O-G
I would be very happy with that.
In all honesty, my first hope would be Ekblad, but I honestly don't see the Flames being able to win or going overboard in a bidding war to get the pick out of Florida.
After that I have Reinhart and Bennett being pretty much equal. Both bring different characteristics, but I say that they even out. If I had to choose I would take Reinhart simply because he is a right handed shot and has played Right Wing a lot (where the Flames aren't deep in prospects). But I will be very happy with Bennett as well.
My question is since Bennett idolizes Dougie Gilmour and currently wears number 93, if he becomes a Flame will he wear number 39 like Dougie did when he was a Flame. |

TSN mock draft
1. Ekblad
2. Bennett
3. Draisaitl
4. Reinhart
Before I was super excited if the Reinhart dropped to the Flames....but now I've been hearing stuff that kinda scares me
Apparently a couple scouts were saying whichever team drafts Reinhart at the top of the draft will be firing their scouts because of this pick....his skill/brains may not translate as well into the NHL and he may be the talented "dud" of the draft o.O |

I never heard anything like that. Not to say it's not true but I'll believe he's a "dud" when I see it. |

There are other scouts saying he could be the best pick in draft so who knows
I think almost all scouts agree that the top 5 will all be solid NHlers, there just doesn't seem to be any of the "elite" calibre.

Zero chance Reinhart is a dud....he's cerebral out there.
I don't care who we get really...in order:
1. Ekblad
2. Bennett
3. Reinhart
4. Draisatl
But the difference between Bennett & Reinhart is VERY small. |

I think I'll be doing the same for anyone we draft this year, there just doesn't seem to be anyone in the draft that's a lock to be a star. |

It's good to go into a draft with low expectations for once so we can hopefully be pleasently surprised. |

To the hawks credit, I would have put Toews in instead of Weber. Weber played a hell of a tourney, but to me Toews was balls to the walls every shift and was doing everything humanly possible to win. I may be biased because he's my favourite player (other than Iggy!) but still he played one hell of a tournament. |

Who says that whoever gets drafted has to be the next superstar. He will be a very very good player, but Crosby's don't come along every season. If you look back through the last 4 drafts there are maybe 2 guys that I would say have superstar potential. To me that is MacKinnon and Hall (hurts to say that one). But I would still very much like to have a player like Gabriel Landiskog on my team. As impressive and Sean Monahan has been, do people thus far see him becoming a superstar. Even if he doesn't I still want him on this team.
And then there are those that will surprise you. At the time nobody say Jonathan Toews developing into what he has become. All thought that he would be a very very good player, but nobody thought he may be one of the 2 or 3 players in the league that teams would want to be the centerpiece to build around.
The scouts that say "Ekblad will only be a #4" or that "Reinhart's intelligence wont translate and he will be a dud" are the scouts for teams that know they have not shot at getting those players. So they are trying to talk down the situation so it seems to their ownership and fans that they aren't missing out on something huge. I'm not saying they will be generational talents, but they will be very very good. For every 1 scout that says one of those things, they is a hundred that says that scout is full of poop.
Any of the top 4 in this draft will be very very good players. Maybe one of them (hopefully the one the Flames get) will excel and achieve beyond that. But if they don't they will still be very very good players. For every thought that "this player will not pan out" there has the be the equal chance that he will excel beyond expectations. But most likely in the end he will be a very very good player.
Right now I want to see them get a very very good player, and maybe luck will have it that he becomes a superstar. |
