I just wanted some non-biased hockey opinions on Keith/Doughty really. I don't like either of those (frank)ers personally but when it comes to Team Canada I feel Doughty is the man. - golfingsince
No doubt that Keith has amazing offensive ability, and while Doughty has shown flashes of it, i'm not sure he's anywhere near Keith. Doughty has a better all around game than Keith though and personally if I was going to build a team around one of them, it would be Doughty. |

My thoughts too. Keith has shown a level of consistency that isn't quite there yet (yet being the main word) with Doughty. But Doughty has more than demonstrated a great ability to rise up when it matters most. To take things to the next level when it is needed to be. That's the ability that we all say in the Olympics and in these past playoffs.
That is why you build around Doughty over Keith |

I also think Doughty's offensive skills are reigned in a little by Sutter. He won't let him be as offensive as he can be. |

Kinda like Boumeesters drop in scoring going from Florida to Sutter and the flames |

True, and that's why I mentioned that Doughty has shown flashes. We sort of got a glimpse at the Olympics but I wouldn't take his shooting into account too much because of the shortened blue lines. That being said he with a more offensive minded coach he could flourish offensively. That being said, I still don't think he's at the same level Keith is. |

According to Todd Button, as of last night the Flames have their list mostly sorted out, but there's still conflict over the #4 and #5 spots... 1,2,3 are all set, but if all 3 guys go, there's still uncertainty over who they would take with the #4 pick.
I'm worried that they're flip-flopping between Draistl and Ritchie... |

Frank Kadri! Time to start JVR trade rumours, he's the only forward from that team I actually want. |

JVR To Florida?
The latest hot pre-draft rumour has Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis willing to peddle James van Riemsdyk as part of a package to Florida for the first overall pick in the NHL draft.

I wonder if Mckewan will be available at 34 tomorrow. I have a feeling we will be selecting a defenceman with that pick.
Or Hunter Smith. (Truculence) |

I wondered it before, but if Bennett idolizes Doug Gilmour, and currently wears #93 because of Doug Gilmour. Will he now wear #39 since that was Gilmour's number when he played for the Flames?
For the second round I see one defenseman for sure. If he is there I can see it being McKeown. But I also like the sounds of Ryan Collins, Jack Dougherty, Jack Glover, or Ben Thomas from the Hitmen. Makes me think that it will be one of McKeown or Thomas.
If he is still there with pick 54 I can see them going with Hunter Smith then. Huge kid and a right winger. Anton Karlsson may be a good option there as well. I also start to wonder, if he is there, if the Flames conside Thatcher Demko. I don't think he will make it that deep, but defintley worth considering if he is around.
The further thing I wonder about is with the drafting of Bennett, does that make a player like Granlund tradable. I'm not saying to give up on him as everybody seems to jump all over. But with Monahan, Bennett, Backlund, and Stajan (as a holding spot until kids are ready to go) I don't see where Granlund slots in in the bigger picture. I'm in no way saying to deal him now, but in the months to come it may become a real option. |

I'm wondering if they try Granlund at wing for a bit next season. It's hard to deny his passing/puck handling ability and if they can make it work it could be beneficial. I can see where you're coming from though. I'd also put Morgan Klimchuk in that category. Not that we should give up on him this early, but he could be the odd one out if the flames see a real opportunity to get a good player and he likely carries more value than a granlund or somebody like that. |

Tough decision if barbashev and mckeown are both available at 34 which is unlikely but I would go with mckeown especially considering his kingston connection with bennet and they desperately need some top end defenseman |

Bennett is the best player in the draft. Said it for months. I love this so much. |
