I wondered it before, but if Bennett idolizes Doug Gilmour, and currently wears #93 because of Doug Gilmour. Will he now wear #39 since that was Gilmour's number when he played for the Flames?

For the second round I see one defenseman for sure. If he is there I can see it being McKeown. But I also like the sounds of Ryan Collins, Jack Dougherty, Jack Glover, or Ben Thomas from the Hitmen. Makes me think that it will be one of McKeown or Thomas.

If he is still there with pick 54 I can see them going with Hunter Smith then. Huge kid and a right winger. Anton Karlsson may be a good option there as well. I also start to wonder, if he is there, if the Flames conside Thatcher Demko. I don't think he will make it that deep, but defintley worth considering if he is around.

The further thing I wonder about is with the drafting of Bennett, does that make a player like Granlund tradable. I'm not saying to give up on him as everybody seems to jump all over. But with Monahan, Bennett, Backlund, and Stajan (as a holding spot until kids are ready to go) I don't see where Granlund slots in in the bigger picture. I'm in no way saying to deal him now, but in the months to come it may become a real option.

I'll be so excited if McKeown is there at 34 and we take him. Don't know much about Collins. Dougherty has slower foot speed and I wouldn't look at Thomas until the 64 pick. Glover, on the other hand, has strong skating and foot work with good offensive abilities despite having a down year. Getting McKeown and Glover with the 2nds would be solid; 2 right shots with O ability, size and skating.

Oh, and as good as Demko could be, I wouldn't take a goalie in the 2nd rnd. We're in no rush to add one as we have Ortio and Gillies doing well.

Bennett is the best player in the draft. Said it for months. I love this so much.

I'm wondering if they try Granlund at wing for a bit next season. It's hard to deny his passing/puck handling ability and if they can make it work it could be beneficial. I can see where you're coming from though. I'd also put Morgan Klimchuk in that category. Not that we should give up on him this early, but he could be the odd one out if the flames see a real opportunity to get a good player and he likely carries more value than a granlund or somebody like that.

I can see trying him there this season, but it just adds to the backlog at left wing too with Glencross, Baertschi, Gaudreau, and Klimchuk.

It's too early to tell on Klimchuk as he hasn't really played anything professional yet. With him though I think it is all the extra things that he brings. The work ethic, the ability to play in all situations. How many other young players have singled him out a player that they would definitely want on their team. I see him being that necessary heart and soul player.

I also think that perhaps moving a guy like Granlund (an I am not saying to do it now) would garner a better return and allow the Flames to get a better player into a position of need (Right Wing). It makes me like more and more the idea of uniting Granlund with his brother in Minnesota as part of an attempt to get Charlie Coyle out of them. Especially considering that the Wild just drafted another big powerful Right Winger in Alex Tuch. What about something like Granlund, Wideman with salary retained (The wild need another defenseman to take some pressure off of Suter), and the 54th pick for Charlie Coyle. May need to add a little something back from the Minnesota end. Maybe change 54th to one of the Flames 3rd rounders. It just greatly fits the Flames positional need for not only size in the forwards, but to have it on the right wing.

I didn't consider the right shots. Makes me definitely agree with you there.

They would have to do McKeown first as he would make it to 54. I don't see Buffalo picking a defenseman here as they are so very deep in defensive prospects. After Ekblad, Florida will look to a winger. And I see St. Louis (who has the Oilers pick) taking Al's son in Ryan MacInnis. Flames should run to the microphone then to get McKeown.

(frank)ing rights! After watching his interviews Bennett seems to fit the Flames mold perfectly.

People forget he still was the number one ranked player going into the draft. We could have a steal at #4 here.

Bennett & Monahan up the middle for years to come!!! Love it!

Ya, I like Granlund but I see him panning out as an excellent 3c who can play 2c when needed. We our 1/2 Cs in Bennett (Maybe even McDavid next year who knows) I could definitely see them shipping him out to get a guy like Coyle.

As for the 39 93 thing, I think 93 is a much better selling number than 39, so I predict that he'll be encouraged to stick with 93.

Definitely ok with them picking McKeown. One player I'd like to see them take a shot on is Lemieux's kid. Of course right as I write this Lemieux is off the board and Calgary drafted the U18 stud MacDonald

With mckeown still on the board at 34 teammate of bennet and good friend and a big need for the flames which is defense it just makes too much sense for them rather have some goalie and a 6'7 with no chance

Honestly I'm not too upset about the picks. Would have liked Mckeown to slide to us. With how many defence men have been taken in the last 3 drafts, especially last year's later rounds, I'm ok with taking some project players.
If Hunter Smith can ever skate we've got a great player. Gotta grab at least one coke machine on skates. Plus he likes to stand in front of the net. Flames don't currently have anyone who does that.

He's the only pick I liked today, even though we don't need a goalie he's a good prospect the other 2 weren't very good picks

I don't mind the Hunter Smith pick...heardlots talk of this kid on the Fan960 leading up and seeing how he's progressing is very promising for a guy his size
you never know, he might become nothing more than a giant pylon if he doesn't work more on his skating but he realizes that.
he went something like 140th to 36th on central scouting within this year

I have never heard of this goalie and it's a head scratcher mainly because it's a high 2nd rounder....goalies are hit and miss and we've got some good goalies in the pipelines. Hurts even more knowing McKeown was still around

Some rankings had him as the best goalie in the draft, but I can't believe that mckeown was still available and they passed on him

Adam Ollas Mattsson. Picked in the 7th round, ISS had him at 50. Seems like a lot of higher ranked guys slipped down. Could be a steal.
