Talk going around is Scott Hartnell requested Flyers trade him. Has no-movement clause.

Maybe he didn't like how hextall and Berube planned on using him next year? What else could it be? Sheena Parveen heartbreak? |

I don't mean this in any mean way at all but imagine the Flyers with Simmonds, Emery and Subban. That would have to be the most brothers on one team ever. I actually think it would be awesome - J35Bacher
Edmonton had Griere, Laraque, and Anson Carter (and Sean Brown) at the same time, I think. |

4.6 million per for the next 3 seasons for a player that was a playoff healthy scratch. Is this real life? Holy (frank). A 6th round pick would have been a better return by a (frank)ing landslide. |

And thats fine marc but to say his stats are a product of the lines he played with completely disregards the contributions of the plYer himself - JoeRussomanno
Joe I did not say that, maybe some others did.
Hartnell was a very good player here, accomplished a ton, and was a top power forward for 6+ years. Just saying his best is behind him. |

Also, I think you can truly only judge this deal when all offseason moves have been made. - BiggE
No, I'll judge it now. It was a (frank)ing terrible decision and a terrible move. The Flyers traded their first line winger for a guy with an equally terrible contract. A first line winger for a guy who was going to be bought out. Wow. |

i think that's the most likely scenario...they probably were trying to make him be more like a umberger type |

I forgot about grier on that team. I just think it would be cool. Especially since Ed Snider has that inner city youth prgram. What better way then to actually have players on the team for them to really admire. |

Why?
I guess he really doesn't like Hextall and/or Roob - Giroux_Is_God
Maybe he didn't care for Berube? Maybe they butted heads all year?
I'm still grasping at the "whys" because the stated reasons for the trade still don't make any sense. |

Let's wait until he plays a couple of games for us. Who knows, he might've been traded before then. Also, motivation seems to be badly overlooked when looking at these kinds of trades (i.e. decent player wanting out). |

Let's ignore Hartnell is trending toward "playoff healthy scratch" status. I didn't say this season, but I bet by the time he has 3 years left....2015-16?....he'll be a worse player. Why do I say this? Because at least right now we can look at RJ being defensively sound. If IF IFHartnell's numbers continue to trend downward, we'd see a sub par skating player who plays poor defense while putting up 35-40 points with a 5 mil cap hit or whatever it is. At that point, he's untradable with 3 seasons left on his deal.
This deal saves us from a potential albatross. |

So it's okay that we're worse in the short term to maybe possibly be better in 3 years? So we're just throwing away the prime of Giroux's career so that maybe when he's 30 we'll be better off? |
