Ok. Sorry. Thught it was the eye roll seriously i get from my wife.
I like the deal. I still think more will be done before training camp. I think you see a little of what Hextall and Berube want. Versatile, skating, smart players. Attention to detail type. - J35Bacher
If Umby fits in, fantastic. If not, there are more options than they had w/ Hartsy with which to deal with him. Flexibility is the big win, both on and off the ice. |

James Mirtle tweeted that rumors are swirling that Hartnell requested the trade - Jsaquella
For what it is worth (nothing) I am not happy about this trade. Not because I thought Hartnell was a great 1st line LW next year and RJ is a bust, but only and purely because value was not received. This is a BAD trade for Philly and all you need to do is read the opinions all over the internet to know. CJB was in a serious position of weakness and still won this trade. Yes, MJL, I am already wondering about the shine of Hexy.
My odd thought for the day:
I wonder, it is true Hartnell asked for a trade, that it had to do with his little girl? Could this be a case of needing to move for his kid?

Hartnell scored 37 goals in 11-12 and then decided he was a sniper. He does nothing but stand in the circle on power plays and players try to force him passes for one timers that he doesn't actually aim.
The things that made him good (going hard to the net, battling in corners) he's done less and less of.
I thought they could do better than this for him but I think he's being over valued here.

What's the old Don Cherry saying?
When a crusher becomes a rusher, he soon becomes an usher?
Meh. I understand everyone's points about Hartnell's weaknesses. I just don't think the Flyers got enough back. |

I know, right? As long as we aren't moving young players and Coburn, I'm open-minded about changing the mix some.
if it all goes.to hell, we still have our 2015 first. At some point, we were going to try to move Hartnell; better a year too soon than a year too late
Draft the most skill on the board with that 4th-rounder...swing for the damn fences |

It's not that he's being overvalued, I think it was probably in the flyers best interests to trade Hartnell.
But to get back Umberger, who is far worse nowadays, at the same salary for just a few less years makes no sense at all.
Somebody would have given up a 4th or 5th round pick to take a shot on Hartnell, if you wanted rid of him. No need to take back overpaid garbage for a useful player. |

Forget what little Umberger brings. Forget the diminishing play of Hartnell and his foolish penalties.
The Flyers just got out of paying his 4.75 cap hit when he was 36 and 37 years old.
They're trimming the fat. In order to improve, hextall is willing to show to take a small step back now for a nice step forward in the not too distant future.
Hartnell is a better player than Umberger, but he also aged with better talent and has a much longer burden of a contract. He couldn't play with Giroux serving it up. He's sliding.
CBJ wins the next year. Maybe 2. After that, this move will look like a breath of fresh air |

Maybe wait and see who the first line LW is before claiming the next three years have been thrown away. - Feanor
I thought Umberger was that guy? What with his 17 goals with horrible linemates. |

So when the Cup drought reaches 42 years the Flyers start seeing some dividends?

THAT would have been a straight up salary dump, which I could have signed onto more easily than this. It gives you cap flexibility, which they Flyers are lacking.
If you HAD to take a player back, I would think it would have been a better/cheaper player than RJ Umberger. |
