Bingo. What's so hard to understand about this? Hextall is beginning the process of unfacking us from Holmers bad deals
Hartnells deal is too long. It's solving a problem 3 years down the line right now.
I think this is also telling that there may be Zero market for vinny. Prob will have another year of him. But make no mistake we were going to take a hit in trading that contract - Just5
they will have to add assets to move him
eating a million of the deal isn't going to do it in all likelihood |

Incomplete until I see the rest of the offseason. This was just the start - J35Bacher
How does this set us up "better" for an additional trade?
Yes, we just gained $.15M. What else? |

What scares me is Hextall is going with the youth movement. Hartnell seen Richards and Carter win another cup. Hartnell didn't like the direction the team was going in and requested a trade |

That makes some sense and that could be it.
Maybe they completely reconstitute the 2nd line around either Couturier or even Vinny?
- johndewar
Or Umberger. I hear he can play anywhere in the lineup. |

RJ wanted out of Columbus, right? So you would have thought they would have been in the weaker position. - wolfhounds
Hell, Umberger has a limited no-trade...both teams might have been stuck. We all know that Hartnell, whether he wanted out or not, was calling his shot, you know? |

Yeah. I mean, it worked out so well when we let TB dictate the trade they made with us for Gagne when he was forced out. Nice to know that we're letting our players and the other team dictate the GM's moves. - jmatchett383

It's not a good trade. Not trying to defend it, removing emotion and looking at it with logic. The Jackets get a better player with a worse contract. The Flyers get a guy who gives them more flexibility.
Hartnell had a full NMC, Umberger a limited NTC. Hartnell controlled every aspect of where he could go. - Jsaquella
One step back to take two steps forward... apparently everybody's on board with that until it actually happens.

I don't usually like what you say, but God help me if this hasn't at least called my bloodlust. It actually makes a bit of sense unlike the rest of the drivel I've read (and written) on here. |

No, I watched 20 minutes (plus whatever arbitrary extra time the referee's dart falls on) and the USA deserved to lose that game. One, they start faking injuries when they should be running out the clock. Two, they let (frank) Face run uncontested down the side line. Three, the 5 men in the box decide to let a guy dance past them into prime scoring position. |

they added a 4th rounder, original offer was a 6th, but Flyers had them by the balls, so CBJ caved in

Sounds like Hartnell believes more in the direction the Blue Jackets are headed than the path the Flyers are taking. Who would have thought that a few years ago. WOW. |

He had no shot this year, not with Modano, Forsberg, and Hasek. He'll get in with a weaker class. |

Not even sold it's two steps back. I would have liked to get more cap relief in the short term, but it is an odd one. |

Raffl is a nice player to have on the team and can fill in on spot duty, but I want someone more dynamic up there.
I would be OK with trying any one of Read, Schenn or VL (if he remains on the team) if no outside candidates can be found. - funmaster18
It is possible they want to put Simmonds on the first to play the net in front of Giroux/Jake and help police the liberties taken against them.
Then they can do a Schenn, Raffl and possibly Laughton Line 2. Read/Coots/umburger #3 |
