Rob Blake got in. Recchi deserved it more than him. So did Lindros - Jsaquella

From THN on the Hartnell/Umberger trade:
All this does is reinforce the notion that, thanks in part to the perpetual impatience of owner Ed Snider, the Flyers won’t succeed at the league’s highest levels because their key components are never allowed to settle in for too long. - Pixote Andolini
Hartnell has been here for seven years. |

Players such as Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Sergei Bobrovsky and others have been deemed not good enough for that organization, yet found success relatively quickly once they moved on. You can make the case that, individually, there were good reasons for dealing each of the players they’ve dealt. But when you look at the larger picture, you see a franchise suffering from a horrendous case of restless leg syndrome. - Pixote Andolini
"Settle in?" Hartnell's been there since 2007-08; WTF does that even mean? He is the longest serving forward on the damn roster, and he and Kimmo are only behind Coburn by months for the longest serving players in the whole damn organization! |

Not even sold it's two steps back. I would have liked to get more cap relief in the short term, but it is an odd one. - Jsaquella
Exactly my problem with the deal.
I can be sold on a full salary dump. Or dumping Hartnell for guys that are in the minors that don't count against the cap.
Instead, we got a guy the Jackets were reportedly ready to jettison, via CBO.
It's not like we needed to take on Umberger to get us to the Cap floor or anything. |

The story is he really didn't get along with Berube.
Maybe the best thing is that it's a harbinger that undisciplined and careless play will not be tolerated, even if the guy is a team leader. - Jsaquella

You're right, that's exactly what it's been like in here since the hartnell trade - funmaster18
Yes. We've all been diving around clutching our thighs like we just got shot with a shotgun after lightly tripping over another player's ankles, waiting for the stretcher to come out onto the field until we miraculously are able to sprint at full speed moments later. |

i don't care if anyone of those players got traded - they're all younger than me and I am not allowed to wear their jersey. it's one of the biggest reasons I'm glad they resigned Kimmo. |

Gretzky never settled into LA. That's why they've never won a Cup. |

Well as I was corrected before, Umberger wasn't a healthy scratch in the playoffs, he had a herniated disc, that is a bit more settling. |

What if it's B.Schenn, Coburn, our 1rst and our newly acquired 4rth for Subban? Do you pull the trigger? - Deasr1
I do realize some.would, but I wouldn't. Not this year. I would take the risk on seeing what Schenn is and that the defense we drafted develop.
that's not a bad trade, but I wouldn't pull that trigger...yet |

In other news...you can make things look bad by leaving out key facts...for example...let's just pretend Richards is captain in LA and he and Carter are the two best players on the team for this argument so it makes sense.
Let's also ignore that the players they got back in those trades have overwhelmingly out performed Carter and Richards and are much more important to the Flyers than Carter and Richards have been to the Kings.
(I got nothing on the Bob thing....) |
