Hope someone asks him why he feels Columbus gives him a better chance to win than the Flyers do. I'm interested in hearing his answer to that. - PLindbergh31
They have a better defense than the Flyers do right now; I won't fault him if he says it.
But Mason and Bob...I think that's a wash, for how each team plays.
They have some good pieces. That's fine. But I'm not wanting to lose for 12 years to get them |

Ok, well you can't just not pur them in your little lineup there.
A 4th line of Belle-Laughton-Raffl instills a lot of confidence in me.
Read-G-Raffl (if Vinny is traded)
Simmer-Schenn-Jake
Umberger-Coots-Akeson
Belle-Laughton-Vinny
I mean I can't really female dog about that at this point. - Giroux_Is_God
This doesn't look good to me either. Obviously things aren't final but...yuck. |

Meh either way, that's a strong forward corps. That's the bottom line. - Giroux_Is_God
Bellemare, Akeson, and Laughton are unknown quantities at the NHL level, VL and Umberger are coming off injury riddled poor seasons. That's basically half your forward core. Lot of question marks. Luckily it's still early. |

"I'm most comfortable on the wing. It's been a while since I've played center. I really haven't played too much (center) since the first year after I left Philly. I've gone back and forth between the left and right (wing). There isn't really one I like better (over the other)." |

I find it more likely Hartnell was asked to waive nmc
If he requested trade why not wait |

I read that it was the Flyers who approached him with the deal and he was "shocked". |

Hextall said in that radio interview you posted earlier that they approached Hartnell's agent and Hartnell took it as a shock. |

Why not wait until after FA to make this deal. Find a team that struck out on finding a power forward.
It just seems like they settled. - PhillySportsGuy
The urgency to get this done now seems puzzling. Perhaps there are other balls in the air. |

Exactly! I wish I put my comments this way much sooner and more positive.
I don't like the deal. It's not like Umburger is a must have and the deal had to be now! |

I actually think the moving early helped. Once teams start aguiring contracts they might not have had a teram to take that money. Being first to move kind of allows them now to work on Vinny which I think if done is before the draft is over. |

Do the Flyers value Umberger that much ? If so why not wait till he's bought out and sign him for 2m |

I think people are trying to convince themselves this is a good deal. I tried to do the same thing with the Luke Schenn deal.
Pretty much every respectable hockey writer has said this is a bad trade for the Flyers. I tend to agree and I'm not going to try and convince myself that Umberger is something he isn't - PhillySportsGuy
I'm not; I think it's net neutral. You might get 15-20 more points with Hartnell, but Umberger will take fewer penalties and play more disciplined hockey
I think it's gonna be net neutral, as early as next season |

It is funny that everyone wants the Flyers to start planning for the future instead of WIN NOW and now that they actually did it people are like" wait, no!!!!" |

Why did they just give up assets to get a player that was about to be bought out and could have cost them absolutely nothing if they just waited a week? |

Agreed. Vanek disappeared during the playoffs. He's the definition of a one dimensional player, granted the one dimension is goal scoring, but when he goes into slumps, he literally does nothing to help a team win. Throw in the big contract he's going to get, and pass on Vanek. |
