Schenn guess: 3 years, $9.3mm - Jsaquella
Per Bob Mckenzie
Brayden Schenn's new two year deal with PHI pays him $2.25M and $2.75M for an AAV of $2.5M.

True true. I just don't like it personally. The Gagne fiasco, trading Carter/Richards/JVR after long term deals. Now Hartnell.
Not that all of those moves were back, but (frank). Better identity your core if you want to commit such contracts to it. - flyer_nutter
But at some point, when things aren't going right, the core has to change.
I would rather they figure that out early than become the Sharks |

A little curious for all those that say the team isn't re-building.
If I am MacDonald, Streit or Vinny I don't feel super comfortable right now.
Just get a (frank)ing plan and stick to it. All I ask. I can take a few years of a poop team, but stick to some kind of plan. - flyer_nutter
Vinnie would be gone yesterday but they can't find a taker.
Streit and Amac will be here until the D prospects are ready, at least 3 years. |

Tough to identify when it changes every 2 seasons, I don't consider this deal the same as some of the others, this was a bad contract because of the term/age/production, considerations. |

That'll do, Hex. That'll do.
I guess that's a bit of redemption for Flyers fans who are still in an uproar today |

Haven't they identified the core after the Richards/Carter trades? It looks like to me G, Voracek, Mason, B. Schenn, Coots, and Read. Hartnell's contract extension was based on the season he just completed (career best), it was risky.

? My post didn't make sense? Not to mention Hartnell was pretty awful in the series against the Rangers, perhaps that played a factor as well. |

No worries with that.
I could see Hextall trying to clean up a big of the mess Holmgren made with the overpayments.
The last two bigger deals I am just not a fan of. The JVR/Luke Schenn speaks for itself. I can live with dumping Hartnell, but Umberger is shot from what I have seen. Hate taking on that contract.
Really do wonder if they are going to go with a full frontal youth movement. I've been beating that drum for a while. |

Extremely. It's best for both sides too. Schenn has two years to cash in and te flyers have two more years of an affordable deal to see if he pans out the way they hope. Good bridge deal. |
|
|
|
So you take on a player with worse numbers and performance cause you only have to sit on him for 3 years? At the same salary?
- flyler
Umberger is not an awful player. Again, If Hextall could've gotten more he would've. It's clear nobody wanted Hartnell without eating salary or taking back another contract. Umberger will fit nicely on the 3rd line and allow Read to move up in the lineup. Coldn't do that with Hartnell. |
