Ok dude first off the term "deep draft" is irrelevant after round 3

I guess if they go the RJ third line route, read is bumped to line 1?

2 less years is nice.

- Giroux_Is_God

You went with "Dude"

The deal is shorter then Hartnells and allows the lineup to get a little more balanced. Umberger with Couturier and Read is solid third line, actually its a 2nd line as they play more minutes then Schenns line. Now if you move Vinny you can sign someone like Mason Raymond who I think is a solid fit with the Schenn on Giroux lines.

Any chance that Philly management tired of Hartnell's act?

I'm just throwing poop at the wall here.

Sounds like the initial reaction from Flyers fans is bad. I love it. Hartnell was up and down the lineup under Berube. Mostly down. It seemed Berube tried to make him play a more reserved game and it just wasnt working out.

Getting out of that contract alone is huge. Getting a guy like Umberger to step in his place for two years is just gravy.

- hereticpride

You just down graded your offense substancially.

Doom day. RT @BroadStHockey: Mike Richards. Jeff Carter. James van Riemsdyk. And now Scott Hartnell. Damn you, June 23. Damn you to hell.

People are really overlooking Hartnell's contract term. That's why you're not getting a better player back. I'm perfectly fine with Umberger tbh.
- hereticpride

Agreed, I guess everyone is forgetting after game 1, Hartnell looked out of gas. At least, Umberger can play a checking line role over the next couple of years. I don't have a problem with this move, it will be interesting who gets the spot on the first PP unit.

Briere and Bryz already have been bought out. No more CBOs
- Giroux_Is_God

The regular variety... $1.6M cap-hit... less if CMB ate salary.

Save 150k on the cap and 2 less years. Umberger can play all three forward spots. He opens up some options. I don't HATE the deal but I am still shocked. Especially that Hartnell waived to go to Columbus.

Maybe there are dominos

He's a good teammate and well liked by everyone. He lack discipline, but is still very productive. A bankable 20-30 goals every year.

This is a bad trade. If they wanted to move Hartnell to free up salary, they could have done it without taking back a player like umberger

They may not keep Umberger around... buyout is a possibility.

And still can't believe Hartsy waived his NMC to go to 'lumbus.

- Tomahawk

Why? Columbus is probably better than the Flyers right now. Why not just buyout Hartnell then?

Umberger was a healthy scratch in the playoffs wasn't he?

Maybe but we also got some roster flexablity. Hartnall was really only effective on the top line. Umberger can move up and down the lines while also play PK and still produce some offense.

Welp, I guess my Hartnell t-shirt gets thrown in the pile along with Bobrovsky, Bryzgalov, JVR, Carter, Richards, and Carle....and most likely Vinny's

The move relieves $150k in cap space. #Flyers now at $4,363,571. Umberger is UFA in 2017. His modified NTC kicks in this year.

THIS GETS BETTER BY THE MINUTE

- Winning

Thing is, Hartnel is a serviceable player, where-as Umberger is not.

- BulliesPhan87

Me too... Although the last couple years with him have been tough to watch. He really struggled.

I'm saddened but good with the trade since I think Wayne Simmonds is a similar player.

Hopefully there are more moves to come.
