Had time to calm down. Still don't like the trade. We'll see what happens. I'm not advocating a removal of Hexy by any means.

Has there been any definitive answer as to why Hartnell wanted to leave. Things seemed to be pretty good for him here

It's a shame, but he didn't fit in the future plans. You just know he's gonna have some big games against the Flyers. I see a hat trick coming...

Hexy danced around Hartnell's role with the team in discussions. Not a good sign. It appears that Hexy's following the LA model of stability in all zones, and RJ's definitely an upgrade in that area.

As bad as he looks, Hartnell always seems to end up with good numbers. I fear RJ is viewed as a strong two-way player because he spends so much time in his own zone

Hartnell's a bit streaky. When he's focused, he's fine. But, man, when he loses it...and it lasts for games on end sometimes.

I hope RJ will be fine. If he ends up with Couturier and Read, as has been suggested, he could be the RJ we remember from his previous stint in Philly.

We can certainly agree on this for once.

I've heard all the reasons why Scott Hartnell was traded. I'm not saying they don't make sense, they do. At the same time, I don't agree with the thought process.

Jsaq wrote along post that makes even more sense but hearing it from Jsaq makes me even more upset because Jsaq's exact words could be used by Hextall himself and I think the fans could understand a little better and respect the decision even more.

Flexibility three years down the road just sounds too much like a cop out to me. Hextall could be fired in three years from now for all he knows. I understand the need to cut down on all the penalties, not that Hextall as a goalie was the most disciplined playing in the world himself, I still keep in mind that Hartnell is the guy on any scoring line who won't be the most talented and does the dirty work for skilled players. He needs to cut down on penalties but in his line of work, they're going to happen.

I just don't think much of Umberger. I'm not sure he can keep up with the 3rd line. I'm also a little concerned that VL might be part of the plan for next season.

I know the pros and cons. I just don't see how this is the best possible deal they could have gotten. Even so, they should have waited after FA to see if someone got desperate for a top 6 forward.

It just seemed like Hexy was getting rid of Hartnell before the draft at all costs.

Tell you what...if RJ blows next season, I'll buy you a beer at the Tilton in March and you can "I told you so" me the entire game.

Again we agree. I think Hextall just didn't like Hartnell and I have no doubt Hartnell is still a valuable player. I absolutely feel like Hextall should have waited until the compliance buyout period passed. Now my concern is what's out there to replace Hartnell on the top line? Do we go with what we got or do we go out and find a legit talent? I just feel this deal raises so many questions and created a new possible issue but we'll wait and see.

i would start by giving read a chance on that line, if hextall doesn't make any additional moves.

Not sure what is so hard to understand. Hextall is putting his stamp on the team. He has his idea of what he needs and obviously Hartnell doesn't fit that vision. That's really it. It's not a salary dump. One of the side benefits is a shorter and smaller contract, but the primary reason for this deal was to jettison Hartnell.

Hextall didn't start hemming and hawing until the conference call with Hartnell and his agent, when Hartsy excused himself to go to the can and promptly tripped on the blue stripe in the carpet while returning to the call. Icing on the cake, as it were.

Not sure how spending so much time in his own zone is a factor. If a poor defensive player spends a lot of time in his own zone, is that going to make him a good defensive player?

Umberger skates well. As of right now, Lecavalier is part of the team going forward obviously.
