That is why the deal is made. In 3 years who is going to take Hartnell? No one, lets be honest he does have a cap friendly deal at 4.75 but the length was awful. In 3 years he will be an anchor eating up 4.75 mill. He is on the decline. If Umberger plays with Giroux, his numbers will likely rise. Hartnell did get a lot of his points on the PP from feeds by Giroux. - xShoot4WarAmpsx

He's been completely open about shopping it. An quality defenseman or a LW for Tavares are on his list. I love O'Reilly, if Snow could ensure that he signs long term I'd fork over the 5th overall in an instant. |

Are these podcasts always so funny? 10 mins in, not much but Ek scowling, technical issues, video quality is bad maybe because "Google is having issues today"...
Edit: Now Eklund broke his tab and one guy is so sweaty he is on his third shirt?

And... Hexy might be looking down the road, in two yrs they may need that $4.75M to pay "fill in the blank" (Couturier, B. Schenn, etc.) |

And depending on how the Top 4 picks falls, I would be tempted about it as well. If Ekblad falls, that would be a tempting situation. |

I can't imagine Ekblad would get passed the Oilers, if he falls at all. |

I think his time here is done. He may not even want to sign back here. I'd take him back but I'm certainly not going to overpay him like someone on the open market will. Moulson may, generally speaking, score more goals that O'Reilly but ROR is a vastly more complete player than Moulson is. |

Thank you could not think of any.
So there is a comparable for ROR.
Dion is better then prospect Runblad and a 2nd. - jake24242
RoR is worth way more than turris was at the time.....prob worth more than him right now too |

If it goes Sam-Sam...oilers have a tough choice in Leon or Ekblad. I think they go with the German. |

I don't understand all this ROR trade talk. Why the hell would the AVs even deal him? |

Because him, his agent and dad think he's worth 6.5 million a year and uses arbitration/hold outs as a negotiation tactic. Not worth the head ache |

Much better than Umberger? Yes. I'm not saying his contract is good, I'm just saying Umberger is terrible at this point in his career. There is a reason they were going to buy him out.
http://www.sportingnews.c...xtall-flyers-blue-jackets - mw630
The article starts off by blasting a combined 15yr assist GM / head GM (Homer) who assembled a team that went to the playoffs all but one full season (they missed the half yr as well). Homer did as well as any GM with trades, and TOTAL management of the team.
I don't think anyone would deny that Hartnell is the better player. But, "much better"? I'm not sure whether I believe the analysis stats in the article. There are way too many variables. First, Hartnell play with Giroux. And, who knows maybe Umberger just needs some new surroundings, new line mates, etc...
Brad Richards, Briere, etc... have all gotten bought out. So what, normally it doesn't reflect on their play, only their value.
Maybe Umberger is all Hexy could get for Hartnell. Maybe that was the best deal on the table. |
