Because him, his agent and dad think he's worth 6.5 million a year and uses arbitration/hold outs as a negotiation tactic. Not worth the head ache
- romefalls19

I could swear the team took ROR to arbitration this time.

I don't understand all this ROR trade talk. Why the hell would the AVs even deal him?
- glove_was_stuck

They dont want to, and even today Roy said hes very confident that both Stastny and ROR will work out.

Av Fans want ROR and dont want to trade him but if he is asking for 6.5m...sorry ROR you arent worth that Duchene and you are 4th on the depth chart behind Duchene, MacK, and Landy.

You mean the history of him missing one game the last two seasons? Concidering him being the best UFA D-man available we didnt have much choice but to give him market value because thats what it is. 40-50-point Dman with great hockeysence for 5.75M isnt really a bad deal. That 30-point winger who played for NJ who signed with the leafs... THAT is a bad deal.

You think so?

His Dads a life coach or something like that. During the last hold out he was in the denver papers all the time with qoutes about having his sun being paid for his hockey skill and characteristics/tangiables.

This is true, because his agent wants to start negotiations at 6.5 million while the Avs want to start at 5 million. He is a great player but not a 6.5 million a year player. His agent just doesn't want to give at all and the avs had to protect their team.

ROR to the leafs is a pipe dream, never going to happen. Especially for a Dman who would eat up too much of the avs cap space long term.

If you start moving JVR, you might get a deal going there

- DDM-Coga

Oh, so the Avs would MAYBE give up ROR for JVR?

Makes sense then. I would keep all 3 over him too since you put it that way.

I'd be curious to see what the arbitrator awards.
I bet it's closer to 6.5 than 5.

I doubt it, comparable numbers aren't in his favor. I believe he deserves a long term deal worth around 5.5 to 5.7 a year. He's a core player and someone I would want as a building block but if he thinks he worth more than the leading scorer, he's mistaken.

He might get paid more than Tavares.

Best contract in the league.

I think he would be worth significantly more than Turris.
- Aetherial

significant is a big word. contracts have to be taken into consideration here. RoR wants 6.5, and turris is lockex up for 4 years at 3.5. that contract, IMO, adds a significant amount of value to the player. their numbers are incredibly close. RoR isnt worth twice turris in terms of contract, not even close

Roy and Sakic came out and said that they are tryign to build a system that no part is bigger than the whole. I respect how they are open about it. No issues paying their players but just bc they have cap space dont think you can exploit them for that

I agree 100%. You start handing out big contracts you end up with salary cap issues

Would have to be a lot of other pieces. JVR is a much smaller cap hit, for several years, without all the whining about the contract for Nonis to deal with before he decides to overpay him.

As a straight up trade it would be idiotic for the Leafs.

Such system usually goes poof, when the market says so.
Very difficult to sustain when the prices keep going up.

I understand he is a very good center but 6.5 million? What has he accomplished to draw that kind of salary at this point (not to say he may not be worth it someday). Sounds like the agent and Daddy need to talk a walk. They're going to make him an albatross.

Definitely. Plus, you might miss out on things in the future because of not having cap space any longer.

EK ... What up man, Ducks have already said they aren't going to offer Winnik a contract ... While I think that is a mistake ... You need to get your facts straight
