Well hey... if somebody out there is looking to take on more of a scoring role, they won't find more opportunity than on the lowest scoring team in the league.
Murray said it himself, there are certain types of players who may find this sort of opportunity enticing.
This is situation where a Nick Foligno type could find himself running with the 2nd PP unit, or maybe even on a top scoring line some nights. - SuperCat
He's already getting/going to get that in Columbus though.
Honestly, do I want to play for a Playoff caliber team or go to another rebuilding team? |

But how high could the price really get on a 3rd line utility player like that really get?Certainly not a 1st rd pick.
Two 2nd rd picks perhaps? I'd still make that trade. Mainly because you'd be getting a young Top 9 forward that you knew (100%), you are gonna build around. - SuperCat
They are a dime a dozen, focusing on one of them because of their last time is the last thing the Sabres should do.
We have plenty of role players in our system already |

Played 14:06 in ESTOI which was 2nd for Columbus forwards. |

Columbus is essentially two years ahead of us as far as rebuilding goes. He'd probably rather stay there but I don't think he'd hate being a leader on this team. It'd be a little frustrating I'd assume to waste another two years of your pro career, but he's a great get for the right price. |

Now I really want him.
How about a 1st rd pick (the STL pick) a very deep draft (2015)?
I'm sure the guy would prefer playing in Clbs (because they're ahead in schedules), but if you trade for him he doesn't get a choice in the matter.
Plus he was born in Buffalo, so maybe that softens the blow?

It's a possibility. Didn't seem to fit in with the direction of that team anymore.

Nope.
2 seconds this year. Maybe a second and McBain. Which would be totally awesome. |

You dwell on that too much.
Foligno is a proven solid NHLer that I think many teams would love to have on their roster. Just because he's a Foligno doesn't mean everyone who may want him here thinks it for that reason. |

Why? A 1st for Nick Foligno?
We have 3rd liners. He's never eclipsed 20 goals. |

He maxes out at 50 points.
Plays more minutes than Horton.
Was 6th in TOI if you take out Gaborik(who only played 22 games).
With the Harnell trade, he might be available but I mean really how many more Staffords and Stewarts does this team need? |

Solid NHL player, sure. There are about 60 Nick Foligno's in the NHL. Not someone to go out of the way to aquire. |

If he's cast into the right role, which I believe is the third line, which is also something Murray has explicitly said he'd be focusing on this year.. why not?
Stafford isn't a third liner and by the looks of it either is Stewart. But Foligno can fill that roll. poop, trade Stewart for Foligno and a third. |

Well yea, but if you're told "we'd like to move in a different direction." What would you say? No, (frank) off? It's a tough situation to be in I'd guess. It's like your boss asking you to resign. |

Cheaper than those guys, younger (than Stewart by 1 day), & can play the PK.
He's had a taste of what Murray expects, and could be a nice fit for Nolan.
Let's not forget as well, that there's a good chance that Stafford & Stewart are both traded by the deadline.
Can't just assume these UFAs-to-be are gonna want to stick around. |

Go get Setoguchi then as a UFA and have to give up nothing to get him.
They're the same player except Seto has scored 20+ goals multiple times. |

Because he's property of another team. So then we are trading assets for someone who's role could be filled by numerous players.
We IMO shouldn't be looking for 3rd liners unless they are vets that are signed for a year or 2 to help get to the floor.
In 2-3 years guys like Larsson, Compher, Fasching, Catenacci, other Foligno, and players XY and Z will be fine on the 3rd line |

Almost like a $3 mill version of Jochen Hecht, N.Foligno's a guy who u can toss out there in any situation.
I mean yeah, as long as the value is there... Why not? Put Kaleta with dem Foligno boys and you're getting a lotta guts for your dollar on that 3rd line. |
