imo he and ryan lambert should play a rousing game of "shut up and go away" - BulliesPhan87
I look forward to Proteau's future managing a Tim Horton's and sucking at local open mic nights. |

But Mr. _man, don't you understand? He is hip and edgy and clever, and jives with the youth of today.
Oh wait, no, I lied. He's a douche bag. - BulliesPhan87
That is the definition of douchebag, no? At least with 'the youth of today' added. |

I don't care about the money he makes or his natural position if his production is going to continue the way it's been the last 2 years. Heck, I'll play wing for one year for the league minimum, but it doesn't mean I should be on Giroux's wing. - jmatchett383
You have to care about the money. It is only way to move Vinny. Either money matches or your eating money. Your not going to get a high end player or top prospect or high picks so the deal works. Its also one year so after this year you let him walk. |

While I agree he's a tool, this is now the 5th long-term contract the Flyers have rid themselves of in 4 years (6 if Vinny moves). Do you think that may discourage other players like Couturier/Schenn/etc. from signing long-term extensions, or UFA's may be discouraged from signing as free agents? |

The point is, I don't think Flieschman is anything close to a top-line winger. In fact, at this point, I'm not even sure what his role is. |

I think you just won't see that many long term contracts anymore.

With half the league seemingly locked down to long-term deals, it's kind of inevitable to see guys either freshly signed or in the middle of long deals getting pushed out now.
If I were a highly sought after UFA, and I was weighing the risks of signing w/ Philly, I'd be much more worried that they seem to lock the wrong guys into long-term deals in the first place, versus them correcting those mistakes after the fact and reneging on the spirit of those contracts. |

I don't have a problem with veteran players. I'm saying that the Flyers have been foolish and short-sighted signing them to long term contacts. And I don't think I'm out of line saying that the Flyers could have been more patient with JVR and Bob. - Dkos
I don't think you are either. My only point is that I think that the Flyers have made an obvious organizational shift to be more patient and stick with a core group of players, a number of years ago. So I don't think anything Hextall is doing or has done, indicates any radical change in the team's philosophy.

I know. And it was a steep price coughing up Umberger - Just5
It's about need and fit. One contract that doesn't work for one team, works for another. And apparently there were other teams interested in Hartnell.

Probably when he scored 30+ goals for the first time despite not being given top-line ice time. |

Hartnell had ONE even strength goal in his last 29 playoff games.
That's not bad, that's AWFUL. |

Sidney Crosby only had 1 ES goal in his last 18 playoff games. He's slightly less awful than Hartnell. |
