What surprise me is that regardless of how "inept" the trades have been thought of... The Flyers rarely miss the playoffs. Making the playoffs, means that you get lower picks... So, the talent is coming from where? - leon neon
I was being sarcastic.
Flyers have made some good and bad trades.

We paid him 4.5 to be 4th line player last season. Berube will structure the lines to give us the best shot at winning and we all know he wasn't a fan of Vinny last season. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
If we move B Schenn to wing, then Vinny is the best fit for the 2C. IF HEALTHY, he can be a productive top-6 center whose offensive output hopefully overcomes his defensive lapses. |

but what do you really think? - 2Real
No matter where he starts the season I believe by seasons end he'll be on the roster and excelling.
Edit: Unless we trade him to move up to the 1st pick, then he'll be in FLA kicking our @$$ for the next 12 yrs and I'll be looking for a new team to root for.
What are the Canucks threads like? |

He was also a -15 in 29 games for the Blues...
-15 would have been good for 837th in the league. Stretched out over a full season, thats a worse +- than he had with the Sabres. - jak521
Fair enough.
Maybe he's a shot player at this point.
Further cements my point of not wanting to pay him. |

I am fully aware of that, but that was because he didn't fit into the top 6 or really the top 9. He doesn't fit this team system. That's why they had him on the 4rth line. Bad defense and slow. Not because that's how they view him as a 4rth line center. |

Yes...and Raffl wasnt going to be anything but an occasional fill in at the time of his signing. I like what I saw in limited time for Laughton and I think he has more than enough puck skills to play wing on 2nd line...especially without the pressure to Center it. - juiced
I'd still start him as the 4C and let him work his way up. That lets him focus on playing within himself against lower competition. Reward him by moving him up if he deserves it. Just remember: Claude Giroux didn't make the team out of camp when he was basically guaranteed a spot. |

It's like Brendan Morrow circa 2011... he's more intangibles than tangibles today. He's definitely not going to make anybody forget Scott Hartnell. |

Traded might not be an option. - Tomahawk
I think at this time this has to be the case.
He would be gone already if there was a viable deal.
Still too many centers available at the moment.
Plus I get the feeling Hexy does not want to throw in a draft pick to move VL, which is probably the cost. |

not entirely true. Teams could have VL on their back burners to see what happens at the draft. He could be a later Saturday or Sunday deal. |

If you're a team w/ Vinny on your back burner, I'd hate to see what's on your front burner. |

You have to hope that there's a team at or below the salary floor, who would be willing to take VL on.
I think Timmy P. mentioned Nashville as being below the floor, and I think we've all heard the VL to Nash rumors by now.
So maybe it happens. |

That is funny. Vl is not a bad player. Not at all. Just not a fit since Lavy left. People could do worse...say Umberger

I hope so.
Just not optimistic at this point.
Hexy saying they want better skating, faster, two way guys means VL would be gone if there was any semblance of not getting raped to make a deal. |

I see your point. But with better options out there, VL might be someone's last chance guy. He might not be moved till after the beginning of FA. I would rather before. but, who knows. |

I have just paged through most of the thread. There's not a lot of speculation on the defense. The defense scares me. We need a major upgrade. Frankly, I think the Hartnell-Umberger trade is minor compared to our need for defense.
Timmo-MacDonald
Streit-Coburn
Grossmann-Schenn
This ain't going to cut it.
Any prospects going to step in???, will Hexy move them in or give them more time in the minors. Any line 1 guys in the UFA, that would look nice in the O&B. Sound's like Bill wants to add more meat to the line up, esp. if Grossmann is on his way out?

I think Bill commented on that earlier, that Del Zotto would not be a good fit. I tend to agree, if Grossmann is on his way out. He's not a #1 guy, more of a 6/7. I'd rather take a chance with a prospect or AHL'er |

Other than Vinny for MZD....bad contract for one year rental Dman. We dont have the space for a FA.
I know people are scared of "ruining" our prospects confidence by rushing them, but personally I think we should push Ghost as much as possible. Clearly he has the skating and puck skills, he showed he is calm on the ice in high pressure situations (college playoffs) so having him play as extra D-man in bottom pairings feels OK. I just dont see much difference then doing what the Bruins did with Krug. |
