Wow! I made a joke, this morning, related to a video of Hextall saying "..when you look at a move you look at the future". I said that thinking of the future when making a trade sounds like a culture change for the Flyers. MJL took offense at this and pointed out that the Richards/Carter trades were about "the future" and that since 2010 there has been a definite organizational shift towards keeping the core and building from within. I disagreed and pointed out that while Holmgren spoke about building from within and holding onto young players and planning for the future they have moved young home-grown talent since 2010 and continue to sign players to too many years and too much $$$.

Could be looked at from a lot of perspectives. I know that they were impatient with JVR and that was part of it.

No one was expecting Giroux to beat out Crosby for the MVP. That really wasn't a practical scenario.

I don't think the Flyers made this deal with any intention of buying Umberger out. He'd have to go way south in his play, for the Flyers to even consider that.

Maybe. I'm not at all saying that Claude Giroux is going to win it, he won't but the Hart trophy is rewarded to the player most valuable to his team. Claude Giroux is easily more valuable to his team than Sidney Crosby is to his'.
