The fact is that four of the Flyers best players will be UFAs two years from now, and Pronger will still be on the books for another season. - Feanor
Yes that is a fact. So that means the Flyers plan to buy Umberger out after two years?

I can't edit, but what I meant to say was four of the Flyers best player will be in line for significant raises two years from now. BSchenn and Couturier will still be RFAs, but combined with Coburn and Voracek the four of them will be making more than $20 million.

It's a viable option they must have considered. |

Give it up, man -- you said it already: If/when they do buy out Umberger, it'll be like this conversation never happened. |

Umberger is less likely to be bought out than he is to end up as another bronze statue on Broad St. |

what do you guys estimate the cost to move into the top ten for the Flyers in the draft?
assuming this is a swap of #17 for a pick #6-10, as hinted in the earlier comment from Hexy?

I disagree that it's something they "must" have considered. I don't see that as being any part of the internal conversations or meetings when talking about acquiring Umberger. I don't believe a team operates that way. It's speculation and just an opinion, but that's what I think.

B schenn which is stupid. Since he'd be a top 5 pick in the draft |

A buyout is an option for any player. And if they do wind up buying him out, that wouldn't prove that buying him out down the road was part of the deal. If he plays really well, will they still buy him out?

that would be a (frank)ing stupid trade since like you said schenn was a 5th over all pick and then we'd give up our 1st for a player that HASN'T PLAYED AN NHL GAME? f that |

Depends on the team. Players with value to almost everyone that could be traded: B. Schenn, Coburn, and Read. Any of those guys leaving is an overpayment in a pick swap scenario. So, I think it would be all picks and prospects. |

I know. I was talking to my dad last night about the hartnell trade and said the flyers should never (frank)ing trade schenn while he's young because we always give up too early on players and he's showed potential. (frank) he's only 22 years old. |

I would like to think Hextall looks long term and saw the potential cap crunch in two years. At that point, someone like Hartnell who has a good chance of losing a step and has a difficult contract to move might not fit into the long term plans.
Umberger is a player we like, his contract is shorter, and if we still need the space the buyout cap hit is something workable. Nothing more than that. I would expect them to think about a scenario like that before doing the deal. |

Maybe in a straight up swap, but not as the bonus value to trade up not into the top 5. |

I would trade both Schenns and more for Subban. But not for Bogo. It truly depends on the return and the direction the team is going in. |
