I don't think Iginla is getting 6 million and if he wanted that I am looking at something else. - J35Bacher
He pretty much made 6M last year with Boston. He had 31 goals and 30 assists. Why is he going to take a paycut? |

Do you say this because nothing has been done with him yet, or is there something else?
Now that Schenn is signed I think they have to address the back up goalie. - Marc D
I have no hard evidence. Just my gut, and the fact that he really did want that #1 spot. And I doubt he's given up on it. |

Can't use that roster and maximize the LTIR cap space for Pronger due to the roster limit of 20 players. - MJL
Okay, can you or someone please explain what must be done to maximize Pronger's LTIR on day 1 of the season and all rules/pitfalls associated with it? |

There's never any guarantee that any player will live up to a contract no matter how big or small. NHL GM's and player agents know what the market is for players. It's really some of the fans who haven't kept pace. - MJL

If we need to point to this deal by the Oilers to make ourselves better accept the MaC deal, that's not a great sign. - wilsonecho91
Or maybe the market for defensemen is insane. |

Pronger's full Cap hit has to be included on the active roster with the Flyers at or under the upper limit, with a roster of 20 players. |

I am curious what Stastny and O'Reilly will want now that Callahan got 5.8. Must be thinking
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ - J35Bacher
ROR is going to arbitration, will likely make less then he did last year, for one year at least. What Stasny will get is going to be interesting. |

MacDonald is a year younger and more accomplished at the NHL level.
2 years at 4.5 AAV for a guy who barely played makes MacDonald seem underpaid. - johndewar
Just like AMac, it's just what one team was willing to (over)pay a guy, in the absence of any competition.
We'll have to wait until post July 1 before drawing any real conclusions. I suspect that we'll see some very good guys end up having to take relative peanuts because several guys like Nikitin broke the bank first. |

So they need exactly 20 players (no more, no less), plus Pronger, and when they add up all of the salaries, the optimum amount would be the exact upper limit? At which point you can LTIR Prongher, reducing your cap hit by $4.921M, and add players to the roster? |

Saying there is an absence of competition is innacurate. All Nikitin has to say if you don't meet my salary demands, I test free agency on July 1. And there is the competition.
Quality defenseman are in demand, that elevates the market. |

Ok. 1.8 plus the bonuses of 4.2. i get it. He had the cap hit at 6 million so i just assumed 6 million cap hit.
He might get that but I don't think Boston can do that again. Have some RFAs to sign and took a nice hit with the bonus cushion. He might have to take some type of cut to stay where he wants. I mean their will be teams that might pay but does he want to go there would be the question. |

Are there any #1 goalie spots left?
I know there are 8-9 teams that need backups.
Love Ray but think his days of being the everyday starter are done. |

It can be more then 20 players, but it can't be less. The rest is correct. |

It seems like almost any defenseman that can adequately skate backwards is in demand.
If I were Erik Gustafsson, I'd have left for the KHL too. |

Depends what you mean. There are some teams like Buffalo and Calgary that have a #1 guy, but those guys would be backups on other teams. |

Just because ONE team signs a guy to that price (prior to true UFA) doesnt mean that he is worth that.
But I have a feeling that Edm really believes he can get back to 2011-2012 form. Then he would be worth it. |
