ROR is going to arbitration, will likely make less then he did last year, for one year at least. What Stasny will get is going to be interesting. - Marc D
Yes but they can come to a deal before arbitration. Also i still think someone can shoot an OS |

It can be more then 20 players, but it can't be less. The rest is correct. - MJL
So a minimum of 20 players (21 if counting Pronger) whose salaries add up to as close to the cap's upper limit as possible? |

I fully expect Calgary to try this on day 3 of the season. |

Pronger can be counted as one of the 20 players. |

Can someone explain how this dude is worth 4.5 AAV and yet, we whine and female dog about Andrew MacDonald's contract? - johndewar
Six years is a very long time. |

That should put to bed the coburn to oilers rumors - Just5
They probably will offer 2 second rd picks or something for him, I just can't see them trading Coburn for less then a first or in a package for a top pair defenseman.
Trading him for a top forward or a first rounder means they have a back up plan to replace his minutes/role on the team. |

Quick question: In the NHL, what is the shortest duration for which you can sign a player? |

Just because ONE team signs a guy to that price (prior to true UFA) doesnt mean that he is worth that.
But I have a feeling that Edm really believes he can get back to 2011-2012 form. Then he would be worth it. - jak521
So that implies that with no competition, Edmonton just willfully overpaid the player, with no insight into the salary market at all? And what a player is worth? |

It seems like almost any defenseman that can adequately skate backwards is in demand.
If I were Erik Gustafsson, I'd have left for the KHL too. - johndewar
Ron Hainsey just re-upped for ~$2.8M several hours ago... let's not get carried away. |

would you guys do Vinny for Del Zotto? He'll probably get a contract at about 3 million. We'd save 1.5 million and get better on D - thoughts? |

They may have if the destination is unfavorable. Hell, Vanek was offered $8M for 8 years from NYI and declined because he didn't want to play there. Some destinations are favored more than others, and if possible, one way to lure them is to offer more money than other people can/will. |

I would make the trade, and then turn around and flip Del Zotto to another team. |

What's an SPC? I thought you could sign players to like 1-day contracts. |

I think Nikitin could get the same deal or better on the open market come July 1. So if he was dead set against playing there, I don't think he would've signed. |

I said the same thing yesterday. But I have a hard time believing that we would get a decent player in return for Vinny. |

Okay, can you or someone please explain what must be done to maximize Pronger's LTIR on day 1 of the season and all rules/pitfalls associated with it? - jmatchett383
There are two options. Pens and Redwings went with option 2 this year, Flyers and Bruins picked option 1.
http://www.capgeek.com/fa...injured-reserve-LTIR-work
If you are building a roster that won't be under the cap including Pronger's hit, then you want to exceed the cap by as close to $4.94 million as possible AND include a couple of AHL contracts on that can be demoted once the season starts to create some breathing room. For example Hagg and Straka who both have 925K cap hits. |

I would love to see Jerome Iginla as a Flyer. I would love to see a player of his status play with Claude Giroux. However, I don't see the fit. Pushing one of Simmonds or Voracek back to a checking role isn't a smart idea. Voracek and Simmonds are top six forwards, the same way Hartnell was. Heck, the development of Brayden Schenn or Matt Read could get pushed back as wingers as well. |

Tallon was just telling Duthie last night that he's very happy with his organizational C and D depth and his needs are on wing. |
