Giroux won't be a cry baby. The fans don't need to be, either. - Feanor
Let's be real, Giroux probably isn't done crying about Jagr. The Hartnell tears will have to wait. |

I don't think we can underestimate the influence Hartnell's lack of discipline had on this trade.
If we take last years numbers and replace Umbergers penalty minutes with Hartnell, that is many many times less shorthanded over the course of a season.
You get this:
RJ: 74 games 18 goals 26 PIM
SH 78 games 20 goals 103 PIM
I think the last stat says it all. Hartnell took a LOT of dumb undisciplined penalties, and it never got better. I think Berube had enough. - MBFlyerfan
I understand that there were good hockey reasons to make this move, but the biggest reason seems to be that it gets them out of a bad contract. Hextall himself, said it was a lateral move. |

Hopefully Vinny gets moved this offseason, but if he is moved there's little doubt the Flyers will have to take some (or even a lot of) salary back. It's possible that there just isn't a deal out there considering all the other top 6 centers on the market this offseason. If he's still on the roster next season, maybe you can hope for a bounce-back season by putting some speedy wingers with him.
Schenn - G - Voracek
Read - Lecavalier - Simmonds
Umberger - Coots/ - Raffl
Bellemare - Laughton - Hall/Rinaldo/Etc.
If Lecavalier can bounce back, then next offseason there may be more demand considering all the centers this offseason will be signed. After Vinny's signing bonus goes through there will only be 8.5M left to be paid on the final 3 years. For teams needing to get to the cap floor. This could maximize the return on him.
Of course this is assuming he does bounce back. I don't like taking Read away from Coots, but it may be the only way to work with Lecavalier on the team |

Just making a joke. Sorry if I touched a nerve. I have no idea what was in Homers mind with those trades. One minute those two guys were the future of the Flyers and the next they were traded. Seems to me they have had a history of impatience with young talent and a bad habit of signing guys to contracts that are way to long. So, yes, I'd say the Flyers have been guilty of not considering the future enough. - Dkos

Not only that, but he says (in response to the length of the contracts) that a lot will need to happen around that time. |

There certainly is a history. But I think since the big trades the Flyers have identified and have stuck with the core they have, for about 3 years now. So I think there has been a definite organizational shift since 2010. |

Flyers are stuck with him and you have to hope he bounces back. That's all they can do. Judging from the hartnell trade. It was evident that hartnell's contract is basically a negative in this league. That is after a prototypical Scotty year, not really a down year. The flyers won't be able to get anything but Clarkson for vinny.
Have to hope he bounces back, try again at the deadline of he's having a better year

I had a weird dream we traded Hartnell for Umberger
I smoked some good stuff before bed - Winning
Did you also have a dream that we would get equal production and about 30 less minors over the course of the season? Good dream.

You mean a "generational talent"?
I have not read a single description that has referred to him in this way. On the contrary, I've seen people trip over themselves to say he is not even a franchise guy.
Who is to say how good he can/will be? The guy is barely 18 years old. |

Yeah, that's why I think the Flyers have to do their best to put Vinny in the best possible situation to succeed by slotting him as 2C with Read and Simmonds. That way he has speedy wingers that can feed him the puck. It may take away from other developing players, but one of the best things that could happen for the Flyers is getting rid of Vinny next offseason for a legitimate return. |

I don't think they are stuck with him. He scored 20 goals while being injured and not seeing top pp or top line minutes. Teams could use scoring. The thing you won't get is a high end prospect or high picks. |

The more I think about this trade, the more I like it. It isn't the best trade, however, I like what we are doing. I feel that Hexy will make a t least two more big moves. Pne will be moving VL and the other a Dman. We have a ver yyoung team on the forwards. I think Hexy will sign a vet on the wing to help in the locker room. I am not a big Penner fan, but he would sign for say 2 years, decent cap, he would be a guy I think they target. He played decently with the Ducks and he could be a good player with G. I am very excited about this off season. |

I really hope they put Schenn at wing and leave him there.
I think his skill set is much better suited to wing and I don't buy the CANARD that he is a much better center than wing. The stats don't bear that out.
I think he can be the grit on the top line with the Gingers. Maybe he should get some henna for his hair and go the Cartman route.

Weren't Bobrovsky and JVR traded after 2010? What about Hartnell's contract? Streit? VLC? |

I honestly dont think they are even looking for that. The toughest thing for them is where he will want to go and making that deal work. |
