Something like this is very realistic. I wouldn't be upset with this. I like Pouliot's game, bring him in on a 4 year deal. Mclement a one year stopgap at 4C. Flyers retain 25% of Vinnys deal in Upshall trade. - Just5
I thin Laughton will have every opportunity to take that 4rth line center spot. |

Maybe we just send Vinny to MTL for Briere. They love Vinny and the size could help down the middle. We get back Briere with one yer left and place him on the wing with Schenn and Simmonds. Then we just find a winger like maybe Pouliot to play with Giroux.
Also we now bring back a fan favorite and friend of Giroux so we keep everyone happy

Briere never seemed to fit in on the wing. I think I even remember him saying he would prefer center.
I don't think the Flyers should keep trying to force square pegs into round holes. |

4th-line, PP specialist, please. I don't think they can appreciably improve at ES if they have to keep hiding their 2nd-line defensively. Vinny, even if he bounces back in production, will always be a liability in the DZ and NZ. - Tomahawk
Would you prefer him at the DMZ?
I bet he hates the DMV too. |

I just think if Vinny is moved it is this week before FA starts. Either in the days leading to the draft or at the draft. After that I am not sure then, unless a team who wanted Spezza, thorton, or one of the other centersmisses out an maybe looks to take Vinny then.

Correct. But for one year i can live with it. Remember that this tweaking will not be completed in one year. |

Not sure what this means. - Just5
like if we send the other team Vinny and some cash to help pay him, do they take the entire cap hit or do the flyers retain some of the cap hit? |

I don't know if teams can trade cash anymore. I don't think they can. Teams can retain cap hit and real dollars in a trade. |

I don't think teams can add cash to trades. As far as retaining some of the cap it depends on the deal. If the other team takes him outright then the Flyers do not retain any of his cap. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Schenn, Hartnell/Umberger, Forsberg and Lindros - bmeltzer
A Flyers team heading into this season that features a 34 Vincent Lecavalier and a 32 year old RJ Umburger. Both with injury issues, both with similar high cap hits, both will not be main stays on the top line, only one can play all three forward spot.
The easy copout response is to wait for the final result but I'd perfer one Hartnell then both Umburger and Lecavalier...and I like Lecavalier.
I'll keep saying it until it sinks in. Hextall could have waited until the buyout period ended. |

If he can't be traded then he should be on the first PP unit. He still has the best shot on the team. |

Aside from the 8 games he missed last season, exactly what "injury issues" does Umberger bring? |

I'm sure he will. But there needs to be a fall back plan. I'm done with Adam Hall. I am on the side of keeping ghost, laughton, hagg in the AHL for most if not all of the season. I want domination from them at that level. |

I have a hard time wanting them to waste Laughton on a 4th line. He showed enough offensive upside in the O that at worst he could either Center or play a wing on the 2nd line if thye move baby Schenn up.
I just worry putting him in that 4th line role stunts his organic growth. I actually think playing the shutdown #3 C has been responsible for some of the regression of Coots offensive potential...he focuses so much on getting back or not getting out of possition that his "flow" is impacted. |

It's not a "waste." It's how you bring a guy along. You give him low minutes and let his game come to him. It's what the did with Mike Richards his rookie year. That worked out okay. |

from bill's blog
"It is questionable how healthy Umberger actually was this past season. Players never want to be seen as making excuses. What is known is that Umberger played through the Blue Jackets' first-round playoff series loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins with a broken finger, separated shoulder and herniated disc, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports." |

Well then I guess Sean Couturier has health issues as well since he played through injuries all year long and needed post-season surgery. Damn old man Couturier and his old man health issues. |

If you bring up players and they struggle, they might not be better the following year. They might be worse, and it might derail their career. Bring up players when they are ready to play in the NHL, not to struggle. - MJL
NHL players are not finished projects when they play their first game. Of course the player should only come up when the GM think's he's ready but players GMs have deemed "ready" don't always live up to expectations and struggle. Particularly their first season up. Players do have growing pains.
Brayden Schenn was deemed ready in 2010 in LA but struggled in 8 games before being sent back. Brayden got his first extended chance when the Flyers deemed him ready and traded for him before the 2011-2012 season.
Did the Kings misjudge when they deemed him ready when he made the team out of training camp or did they just not have faith in him when he struggled?
Would Schenn be a better player now if the Flyers had left him in the minors for another year? Was Schenn a better player in 2011 due to the struggles he had with the Kings in 2010?
Not every player is a success out of the gates and even the LA Kings make mistakes.

Schenn - G - Voracek
Read - Couts - Simmonds
Umberger - Boyle - Raffl
Bellamar - Laughton - ?? - PhillaBully
Schenn should be on the 4th line. He brings nothing to the table and will cause G production to fall. They refused to bump him off the second line and he stunk. |
