Well then I guess Sean Couturier has health issues as well since he played through injuries all year long and needed post-season surgery. Damn old man Couturier and his old man health issues. - jmatchett383
Look it up and you can educate me. I wouldn't compare Couturier and Umburger because Couturier is one of the center pieces to this team, younger and didn't miss time. Couturier is also on the up and up, while Umburger is also headed the other way. |

Maybe we just send Vinny to MTL for Briere. They love Vinny and the size could help down the middle. We get back Briere with one yer left and place him on the wing with Schenn and Simmonds. Then we just find a winger like maybe Pouliot to play with Giroux.
Also we now bring back a fan favorite and friend of Giroux so we keep everyone happy
Koombya - J35Bacher
I mentioned Pouliot in earlier post to play with Giroux. I didn't realize they were friends.
I would also like to see Boyle as he is a big body who can play a solid checking and defensive game. |

Schenn should be on the 4th line. He brings nothing to the table and will cause G production to fall. They refused to bump him off the second line and he stunk. - tk71

I mentioned Pouliot a few weeks back as an upgrade over Downie, but I just don't see the Flyers being able to squeeze him and his upcoming pay raise under the cap without money coming off of the cap from somewhere else. |

Flyers are stuck with him and you have to hope he bounces back. That's all they can do. Judging from the hartnell trade. It was evident that hartnell's contract is basically a negative in this league. That is after a prototypical Scotty year, not really a down year. The flyers won't be able to get anything but Clarkson for vinny.
Have to hope he bounces back, try again at the deadline of he's having a better year - Just5
An upcoming team like Columbus was willing to take on that negative contract. |

Weren't Bobrovsky and JVR traded after 2010? What about Hartnell's contract? Streit? VLC? - Dkos
JVR was traded for a young player. It's pretty much a common practice to sorround a young core of players with veterans to support the team. I don't know of any team that goes completely with youth, and abandons veterans completely. |

CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $305,000
Something like this is very realistic. I wouldn't be upset with this. I like Pouliot's game, bring him in on a 4 year deal. Mclement a one year stopgap at 4C. Flyers retain 25% of Vinnys deal in Upshall trade. - Just5
Any proposed roster must include the ability to carry Pronger on the roster on opening day. With some combination of available cap space, and temporarily waiving and/or demoting players. Or else it won't work, if they want to maximize the LTIR cap space of the team. |

So...because a player missed 8 games last season after missing a total of 5 games in the previous 5 seasons and is 32 years old, he has "injury issues?" Guess 95% of players over 30 in NHL history have "injury issues." |

from bill's blog
"It is questionable how healthy Umberger actually was this past season. Players never want to be seen as making excuses. What is known is that Umberger played through the Blue Jackets' first-round playoff series loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins with a broken finger, separated shoulder and herniated disc, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports." - Doc_Sarcasm
All true, but over his career, Umberger has been remarkably durable. Now the herniated disc is definitely a concern, but I am not sure I would classify Umberger as injury prone as some have suggested. (not you, just in general)

NHL players are not finished projects when they play their first game. Of course the player should only come up when the GM think's he's ready but players GMs have deemed "ready" don't always live up to expectations and struggle. Particularly their first season up. Players do have growing pains.
Brayden Schenn was deemed ready in 2010 in LA but struggled in 8 games before being sent back. Brayden got his first extended chance when the Flyers deemed him ready and traded for him before the 2011-2012 season.
Did the Kings misjudge when they deemed him ready when he made the team out of training camp or did they just not have faith in him when he struggled?
Would Schenn be a better player now if the Flyers had left him in the minors for another year? Was Schenn a better player in 2011 due to the struggles he had with the Kings in 2010?
Not every player is a success out of the gates and even the LA Kings make mistakes. - Flyers_01
This contradicts the previous point you made of bringing up a player and letting them struggle at the NHL level. That is what I disagree with. If they struggle or show they aren't ready, you send them back down. Not leave them on the team to struggle and kill their confidence. |

EDM and we see how well that has worked. I mean they tried with Ryan Smyth but they haven't had the right collection and it has showed. |

He's also been remarkably consistent offensively, despite being saddled with the heaviest defensive responsibilities that the Jackets put on any of their forwards for the past several years. |

A nucleus of young, flashy offensive talent worked for them in the 80's, though. Granted, they had a good defense and a goalie who made just enough saves. Guess that's a bit different. |

Unless any of the prospects make in impossible to not be on the roster then i want them in the AHL. I don't want to bring them up to early and then have to send them down only to try and build them back up. I would rather have them as confident as can be so when they do hit that rough patch they have had that adversity before and can work though it. |

Just out of curiosity, not to pile on you, but what kind of things would a guy like Laughton have to do to "make it impossible" not to send him back? What kind of things would you like to see him do to make it onto the roster, possible as the 4th line center? |
