I have a feeling if the flyers signed Gaborik to this exact same contract people would claim it to be the worst contract ever.

No for two reasons:

1. I like Stolarz more than I like getting rid of Lecavalier's contract.
2. I do not think Demko is worth the 17th pick.

- aflyerpower8

oK. Just was thinking. I mean goalies are so hit and miss that you really don't know what your got. And with mason locked up for 3 years and still pretty young you can add stolarz and take demko and not really miss a beat.

What if the Flyers were coming off 2 Cups in 3 years, and Gaborik had just scored 13 goals during this years playoffs. Your statement has to have context.

Wtf is Lombardi thinking? Gaboriks and Richards contracts are going to hurt that team badly in three years time.
- hereticpride

In 3-years, their window was due to slam shut anyway. In the meantime, the team they have is capable of winning the next three Cups.

Because contract is front loaded as much as allowed ...he wont want to play for free in the last couple years of the deal

Win win for both parties here

- keatondixon

Fair enough. So it really comes down to what they get out of him the next couple seasons. To be fair, if he can produce like he did in 2011/12, it's a solid signing, especially with the get out of jail free card. But if the future is more similar to this past season, excluding the playoffs, it won't look as good.

I'm surprised velcro sneakers haven't made a comeback. With all the fat out of shape slobs around, tying one's shoes seems like such a waste of energy.

Probably but I just find it funny how one team can do something and the GM is a genius and another team can do something similar and the GM is a goat. The Callahan signing is getting a lot of positive feedback but if we did that people would never stop complaining. It's just amusing to me

It's just my opinion. If we moved back, I would be more comfortable taking Demko. The real kicker for me is we get another player with the draft pick and still have Stolarz. So we would be trading two assets to get a younger, possibly better or worse, version of what we just traded.

Winning cures all ills. When you haven't won in forever, every move gets scrutinized. That's how it is.

Newb.
When you are unhappy with a contract your reaction explains why.
Length of contract is destruction of furniture (or other inatimate).
Cap hit is destruction of living organisms...
The victim type and level of creative inappropriatness will indicate your rage.

Flipping tables is obviously a 3 on a scale of 10 for contract length.
Punching babies would be more around a 6 for the cap hit. (depends on how ugly the baby was before you started)

But adding Stolarz to Vinny maybe you get a better asset then just trading Vinny alone. I am not arguing with you just looking at all angles
