Last year MJL was in full on denial mode that teams do tank and also that the Penguins did it to acquire Mario. I was told that teams had to much pride and there was no way to tank without the players knowing and assisting in the tanking. I insisted that the players did not need to be an active part of the tanking process yet i was told that it was impossible without the players being active participants.

Here we have video of the coach saying "I was coaching to lose". Something MJL was adamant that no coach would ever do. To much ethics or pride or something else ridiculous, maybe he'll remind us.

Right or Wrong, the only thing 99% of the people remember are the Stanley cups that Mario and Crosby brought them, the atrocious seasons before them that got them the #1 picks. Perhaps in another 25 years we'll hear that Mario presided over the very same stunt but in 25 years will anyone care as other than a footnote while gazing at the Penguins banners in the rafters?

I'm not saying that anyone has to advocate the Flyers tanking but it is viable, it has won Stanley cups, and it is done whether certain people like it or not.

The error here is stating that Shelley was signed due to scoring a goal against the Flyers, as if that's factual, rather then speculation. And in my opinion, thinking that the Flyers signed Shelley for his ability to score goals, is silly. The thanks for playing line is a nice touch.
