wasnt around so i might have missed it, but reaction to nitkanen's deal? im sure niskanen was happy - stayinthefnnet
I'm sure his agent has sent a fruit basket to Holmgren's house in Avalon to thank him for setting the market so well for free agents. |

I think Mitchell can make a better first pass out of the defensive zone then Grossmann. Not really surprised Fayne is drawing that type of interest. It looks like they would be better off finding this year's Tom Gilbert. - ravishingone
He's probably slightly better, but not enough for me to seriously consider it an upgrade. I think he's also greatly helped by the Kings overall dedication to possession, puck support and two way play |

Maybe the direction is to go after a Quincey type d-man (even a Paul Ranger). Someone who has played well in the past, but has been inconsistent the last couple of years. I would keep tabs and seeing how Pitkanen is rehabbing from his heel injury.

So far it's been a bit nuts. Nikitin got a nice raise, but short term. Fayne seems to have drawn interest and is speculated to get $3mm or more. So far, Hainsey is the one deal that I think is a good one for the team. Three years at $2.85mm for a good 4/5 guy.

Quincey strikes me as kind of a Coburn type guy. Not in terms of play or style, but he's a guy that people expect more out of, and he struggles with consistency. I'd be open to him at right price, for sure. |

Rather have Hainsey. Meszaros has lost a few steps with the injuries. |

IMO, those are the type of d-man that you're not going to have to severely over pay to acquire. If Hexy could sign Quincey on a Hainsey type deal, I think it would be worth the gamble. Obviously, Pitkanen is coming back from a very serious injury, so he would be cheap.

I think it'd take more than hainsey got, but a 2 or 3 years deal at $4mm or so is not a bad roll of the dice on Quincey.
I heard Pitkanen is still a ways away from playing again, if ever. |

I guess I prefer the devil I know. Especially when the devil I don't know has not been resigned by Winnipeg and Carolina who are not overflowing with defense depth and will cost more money and term. |

I do wish the Macdonald deal was a little lower AAV and years, but he's a good piece. with Timonen, Schenn, Coburn and Grossman coming off the books soon it actually provides some flexibility. |

Basically, signing Quincey to Mez's cap hit. Could make L. Schenn expendable? Considering Luke's cap hit and term, he could probably get the most return on a trade (considering Coburn to pretty much be a lock on the team)
