I'll openly admit that, more that what I see on the surface, I don't know much about the Sixers. But MCW seems like a good guy on a bad team who got the ball a lot because everyone else sucked, and therefore put up high numbers in a weak rookie crop. I've talked to people who follow the NBA who see him as a good supporting player.
Also, if this #3 pick is by far the best player in the draft, why was he picked 3rd instead of second?
In reality, if the Sixers do turn things around, then I'll cheer for them, because I'm a total front-runner for basketball. But I just don't think, from the little bit that I do know, they have the pieces to be anything more than a fringe team unless they go outside and acquire a name piece. - jmatchett383
mcw is likely not a star... but more than serviceable. and big for his position which creates matchup nightmares for teams.
youre right, his season last year was skewed. He won ROY because he put up the best numbers, put up those numbers because he played the most minutes - because the team was so bad.
on the flip side, he took alot of bad shots which hurt his shooting %.
this was because he really had no one to pass the ball to that could score. His percentage and shot selection will improve greatly when he's not asked to be the main scoring threat on the team.

Maybe, but Ekblad will likely be a huge upgrade over Gudbranson and Kulikov in a couple of years. - PhillySportsGuy
Thats the expectation.. but things dont always go as planned.. IE Gudbranson. |

I think he'd been an immediate upgrade on Gudbranson. Dude's getting closer to Thomas Hickey territory every day (except for the game against the Flyers last year). |

Guy over on PSD boards claiming to have a family member that works for flyers saying a roster "fan favorite" player is definitely getting traded tonight. lol take that for what its worth. |

Very excited about the Draft but I also feel Hockeybuzz.com is making way too much of the draft, as if it's the trade deadline or the opening of Free Agency. - SuperSchennBros
If you listen to the hockey media they're covering this draft like the trade deadline. I've heard GMs on the radio saying this has been the most active week they can remember.
That being said. Nothing will happen. |

Just watching the games you can tell MCW is a good player. Even before they went full tank mode, his numbers were good. The Sixers didn't have a horrendous team until they traded Turner and Hawes. MCW got much worse after they left him with no one. I felt bad for him.
Embiid was skipped over because he's injured. If he makes a full recovery, he has a chance to be one of the best players in the NBA. He has the highest ceiling of any player drafted. |

Conversely, he put up some of his best games against the toughest competition. The kid is a gamer. He lays it all on the line. His shooting is his biggest weakness, but now with some talented big man, he can work the ball down low. Makes him even harder to play against. |

I think the entire draft last year was about 5 hours total, so probably 3 1/2 - 4 hours. |

I think Ekblad is viewed more favorably than Gudbranson was.
Still, I think the primary point is that the Panthers have a much greater need for a dman than a center. They have Barkov, Huberdeau and Bjugstad |

Oh absolutely.. They have a sick group of young centers. |
