There's such a glut of back-up goalies available, if he wants to play for a contender, Hiller is gonna have to take a severe pay cut. Reese seems to really like big goalies.

Josh Ho-Sang is a top prospect, but @NHLFlyers want no part of him due to character #Flyers #NHLDraft http://www.nj.com/flyers/...t_touch_josh_ho-sang.html

Apparently Ho Sang told the Stars during an interview "If you don't take me, you will live to regret it!"

"behavioral health" is the NHL phrase for alcohol or drug issues, usually. Although depression might fall into that, too. It doesn't mean they think he's a jerk.
- bodiva88

why would you cut a player because he's depressed? wouldn't that make it worse?

Even if he takes a pay cut, he would still be a costly backup.

Yeah, you usually don't out that kind of stuff publicly, unless they get arrested or something, like how the mystery of Paul Ranger still persists.
- Tomahawk

Yeah, but he sounded more frustrated to me than angry. Which isn't that unusual a reaction if you have a backsliding drunk or addict in the family.

I mean, it would be a shock for them to diss a guy for personality, too, in the league.

Probably not much of a market for goalies again... we could get him for a Vokoun price.

You think of the NHL as good guys, but each organization has its own personality. And you can't pay a guy that kind of money if the return is bad, no matter why. I don't know what the deal is, but it isn't characteristic to diss a guy for any reason but on the ice payoff when you buy them out. This is kind of a weird soundbite, to me.

I can't imagine that a team can't deal with a cocky SOB, when I'm sure there are plenty of them in the league.

They called signing him a "big mistake."

I don't know how he meant it, but it came across pretty bad if Ribeiro is really struggling with addiction or depression.

Might as well just wait until the market dries up unless something great presents itself.

Agree, I don't think he gets more then $1.85 million, which is what Gustavsson got from Detroit. Arguably, I believe Hiller is a better goalie, but most contenders can't pay that kind of money for a back-up. Ultimately, I think the Flyers go in a different direction.

Not a fan of him, though... he's a complete mental flake. Health issues, to boot.

Well, he has sucked on the ice, hasn't he? So that can be the big mistake.

Sure, but "Hey bro, we know you're down, don't worry about the millions we're giving you for nothing" doesn't play either.

Yeah. I would have had interest last season, but I'm much more confident in Mason now. I don't think we need a higher echelon backup with significant starting experience.

I believe the Gudbranson interest, then the acquisition of the top pick.

Flyers paying overinflated market price since 1967

Totally amazing. Flyers crystal ball was broken when they made the MacDonald deal, so they weren't able for foresee that other players, which of course are better, would become available in the future. Hopefully they got it fixed so they can draft the right players tonight.

I think that's a combo from different people, not the offer. That is completely nuts, unless you're getting a forward or two back also.

Although, stranger things have happened.

Yeah. Thats why I think his buyout has more to do with on ice play and him being an bumhole. I don't think it has to do with addiction or depression.

Phoenix would come off pretty bad if they made these kinds of statements about a guy who is a depressed drug addict.
