Lecavalier + 2nd Rounder to Florida for Scottie Upshall? If the Flyers have any chance of moving Vinny Florida is the team and it will require them retaining some salary and giving up a "substantial pick" in return..while taking back a player...the Flyers could grab Upshall I am told.

Or they could just use Vinny appropriately at Center and get 20-30 goals per year. If they bring back another former player I may puke. Vinny+ does not work for me.

Bill,

What is with that kid? He seems ultra skilled. Is he that cocky that teams just prefer to move on from instead of dealing with his attitude? Could he be one of those that would be unahppy and out if he didn't make the team out of camp and had to go back to juniors.

- J35Bacher

He has what is sometimes deemed a "big personality": cocky, outspoken, and demonstrative. His coachability gets questioned -- he's the type of player who says "I'm a scorer, so don't ask me to play D and limit myself." He gets called selfish and a bad teammate.

Also, he apparently really turned off some teams during interviews at the Combine by not giving an inch and playing their game to tell them what they wanted to hear. He basically came off as saying "I'm not going to change who I am and you'll be sorry if you don't draft me, because I am THAT good."

That is why there are some teams who won't draft him no matter what.

Yeah. I don't think they have to give a 2nd rounder to move vinny. I think it may end up just like hartnell where it is less years on the deal coming back and maybe we retain a little money

Pronger was technically 34, and is a hall of famer.

How about Vinny, 1st, and salary for Kulikov and a mid round pick?
then ship Grossman for something anywhere.

Excited! Have no real feel for any of these kids -- have barely skimmed the major website projections or my Hockey News preview -- and that's fine, since I don't really believe young players need to be hyped up like they are today.

If the Flyers can move down some and grab another pick in the late second or third, that wouldn't bother me at all. It takes some luck and patience, but some great players come out of the second round.

But mostly, it'll be nice to have Philadelphia on display. No one is ever going to catch me saying anything bad about Ed Snider -- if the worst thing that can be said about you in professional sports is that you want to win every single year and were sometimes too aggressive...well, the Flyers have given me a lot of entertainment over the years, based on how it has gone down.

Sometimes it's about the journey!

Enjoy the day, people! Nobody loses a game or a championship today!

- AllInForFlyers

I do wish the Flyers would build more over time than go for the home run every yr but that said, I absolutely would rather have a Snider who goes too hard than all those Phillies years where they pinched pennies and showed ZERO desire to win.

He has two and possibly three of the four S's. But I have heard his hockey sense questioned and that is a red flag to me a defenseman in the first round because that is something that really can't be taught. The THN synopsis of him as a guy who can't decide what type of defenseman he is or should be -- and it shows in some indecisiveness on the ice -- is pretty much in line with what I heard.

The real question, though, is this: Is that a hockey sense issue or just a confidence issue? If it's the latter, he'd be fine once he gets a real taste of success. If it's the former, he'll be plagued by inconsistency.

He won't make it to the Flyers' second round spot. I wouldn't mind Philly picking him if they trade down and can get him but I am reluctant at 17th.

- bmeltzer

I think I heard he may be the best pure skater in this draft? ive also heard the concerns but almost all prospects fom 10-30 have concerns? seems like its going to a fun draft to revisit in 5 years to see which players got passed over vs specific team needs at the time. for example, philly still needs team speed at the d position looking a few years down the line. so say we pass on Deangelo or McKeon because of concerns and they turn out very good and the concerns weren't a problem. boy that would be a tough pill to swallow. I think a lot of teams can say that this year

Funny how quickly your tune changed on that regard... because when we acquired a 35 year old Mark Streit it wasnt... idk.. nightmarish.

Guess it depends on the player..

Hah, I didn't even think of Streit.

True. Campbell is four and a half whole months older than Pronger was when the Flyers traded for him and he is not a Hall of Famer. But he is a 25 minute a night first pairing PMD who would be perfect with Coburn for two years, at which point the Flyers would have total cap flexibility.

Campbell's good, but Pronger's in a whole different stratosphere. If they can make the cap work, I'd be for it.

Have you looked at the contracts in 2 years? almost everyone is up.

Hexy must insider info that Lebron is only signing a 2 year deal.
